Stayed August 2013 for 3 days. Location is beachfront, a good 40 minute walk (5 minute drive) to boardwalk. The place was kept clean and focused on a family atmosphere- quiet at night, pool clean, etc. The motel is old and the rooms (we were ground floor) are small, the 'double' beds are not full size but barely big enough for 2 people- if over 6 foot your feet will hang over the end. The condition is tidy and clean but old, in need of modernization. Kitchen was barely equipped, eg not even a sharp knife. Until modernised the rate should be very competitive, especially for the beachfront location.

My family and I decided last minute to come to Wildwood Crest, and we came upon Paradise Oceanfront Resort- Might I say, I was pleasantly surprised with the room we had. It was very clean, spacious and the staff are all very friendly. The location is great. We ended up coming back down again 2 weeks later and again had a very pleasant experience at this motel. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone with families with young children, they do have a kiddie pool which is nice for us families traveling with toddlers.

My family and I returned for the fourth year in a row to this hotel, which we loved when Hermes owned it. This year's trip, a late May to early June visit was HORRIBLE. We paid for the room at the end with the direct ocean view and private balcony, but were bait-switched to an interior semi-view, non-private room, even though WE PAID for the better room. After a bunch of nonsense from the front desk, we settled in and found the beds to be HORRIBLE (no bed toppers this time) - so they brought some. We were OKAY (things were not nearly as clean as previous ownership had kept it), and THEN the ELKS rolled in with a rented U-HAUL full of CASES AND CASED of alcohol. They were drunk upon arrival, complained outside of my door about how the WHOLE HOTEL was to be theirs (how dare us other paying customers??), made sexual advances at me followed by rude serenading from the lower BBQ area, which I had to shield my daughter from. The next day, it started to rain, so we went out and bought some games, figuring we could still enjoy our time in the large covered picnic/BBQ area (the lower of the two enormous decks) TO FIND both decks DRAPED WITH HUGE TARPS that obstructed the ocean view, even from my 2nd floor balcony, vending machines blocked with buffet tables, and drunk ELKS yelling profanities from one floor/end of the hotel to the other (like suck my [--]) to each other. The other families around us could not wait to leave and "pitied" us that our vacation was just starting in this atmosphere. I went to the front desk, complained about the drunks, the language and behavior, the blocked views, the inability for anyone other than the ELKS to access the communal balcony and BBQ areas. He told me he would talk with the manager; I said I WANTED to talk to the manager. He assured he would be there in the AM; went down int he AM - big surprise, the manager didn't show up, but he was willing to REIMBURSE US FOR THE NIGHTS WE DECIDED TO SHAVE OFF OF OUR VACATION - HELLO? Thanks for not charging us for the nights we weren't there - mighty professional of you. How about the ruined trip, the chaotic and rude behavior I had to shield my daughter from, the sexual misconduct of the ELKS, the ruined airfare, the wasted vacation time that was already expended in hell. The desk managers couldn't give a rat's [--] if we were having a trip to hell or not. All they cared about was the big check the ELKS was writing. AND the place isn't clean anymore. So, bye-bye - NEVER AGAIN. If you want to rent your hotel out to a bunch of drunk old men, falling all over the place, blaring music and their loud obscenities all across the place at all hours, insulting other guests for even being there during their binge vacation, then have the courtesy of making them buy the whole place out so that people who save and plan for one vacation a year actually get it. LOSERS all of you. I hope your lack of concern bites you where it counts. We refuted the costs with our credit card company, but these losers fought it tooth and nail. It was like trying to vacation and then dealing with the mafia.

Our Response to Ms. Horrible / Owner Rude,

As we enter our 4th month of new ownership we realize it takes a bit of time to get all facets of a seasonal motel in perfect condition and we are diligently working on these items every day. Our goal is to be the friendliest. cleanest motel in the Crest.

However stating in writing that an owner is rude among other items you have chosen to "Blog" about are not true as we have never met. I understand the recent ruling from the credit card company agreeing with our stance of not refunding you money for the "incident free" portion of your stay has everything to do with you posting a negative letter some 60+ days later .

The first week of June 2013, you arrived with your mother and child and were in checked in to a 1 Bedroom Suite with Ocean Views as advertised. Once the Elks Convention (a city wide convention) began to check in on Wednesday and you came to the front desk to inform us that you and your family were unhappy due to the partying of the Elks we immediately agreed with you and apologized for our "rookie" mistake of booking a family along with the Elks group, something we will never be guilty of again. We absolutely made a mistake and our manager offered to relocate you, your mother and child to an Oceanfront Efficiency which would be much quieter which your mother specifically stated she did not want to move rooms .

We agreed with no hesitation to allow you to depart early to find a quieter motel. We immediately rebated your mothers credit card (not yours) for the nights of inconvenience and did not charge for any remaining nights as that was the right thing to do. Yes i did speak to the credit card company to dispute your claim (written on behalf of your mother) to have rebated the "incident free" portion of your reservation prior to the Elks checking in and the CREDIT CARD COMPANY AGREED WITH OUR POSITION.

We are in the hospitality business and we are proud of the success we have had with our first 4 months of ownership. I wish we have had the opportunity to meet you while on property perhaps a more amicable outcome might have occurred. However, I can attest that your accusations filled with false statements bordering on lies and are less than admirable. We have had hundreds of families stay at the Paradise this year and have booked their reservations for 2014 which is a testament to anyone considering staying at the Paradise not to believe the lies this unhappy individual has chosen to write 2.5 months after checking out. Your letter only comes on the heals of recently being denied your claim to the credit card company disputing our charges which also was filled with false statements, hence the reason the Bank chose to agree with our position.

As for your allegations of child abuse etc... clearly as a father of 2 daughters had this been brought to anyone's attention at the motel at the time of the supposed incident the police would have been called immediately and trust me i would have personally tossed them into the police car. Your "anonymous" letter to the NJ State Elks Office after leaving our property was followed up on yet we could not confirm nor deny your "anonymous" claim of child abuse.

We will continue to service customers to best of our abilities. We are a service oriented organization and anyone considering staying at the Paradise please do not believe this letter fraught with scorn.

The staff was very nice and the property was adequate for one or two nights. If you are looking for Paradise, it's not here but for an average place to stay, it's not bad. The Bed was hard and the bathroom small but for one night it was manageable. Ice machine broken but they sold ice in bags and although they had a coffee pot in the room, the coffee was not included. Also, not many chairs around the pool.

Title says it all Thanks to Bruce, Mike, Wally and the rest of Bruce's staff.
We just returned from a wonderful extended weekend stay and totally agree with all truely positive TripAdvisors' reviews. We have no complaints with this new ownership/management staff. They all make your stay True Paradise. They'll recommend great restaurants or steer you to their private, clean, gas grills to BBQ your own meals. Nice, clean rooms with fully-stocked kitchenettes, very comfortable beds, ample free parking, with their own pool and right on the beach. We hardly left this True Paradise and are going back in a couple of weeks.
Paradise Oceanfront Resort reviews will rise from Top 20 to Top 10 before summer's end.

Room Tip: Any room is fine, and if you need anything ( within reason !!! ), just ask.

We stayed at the Paradise for the 2nd year in a row, from July 21 to the 26th. Our family had a block of 6 rooms.

Room- Our room was on the 2nd floor/206. Just a few things bothered me about the room this time around during an otherwise pleasant stay.

1) Shower faucet head- the same kind you would find in a prison. When running a beach motel you need to anticipate that small kids will also be using the shower. The heads found in the bathroom spray so little and so erratically that you actually need to hold a "red solo cup" to the top of the faucet to collect water and then dump on a kid's head to get the shampoo out. A $15 shower wand @ Depot is not too much to ask.

2) Rusty caulk around the sink. If it's rusty and I can see it, the people cleaning the room can see it as well. It doesn't take much to rectify this problem.

3) Efficiency unit with no dishes. We had access to a stove top, microwave and refrigerator, all of which worked perfectly fine. However, there were bent utensils in the utensil drawer and only a few dishes in the cabinet. Staff needs to be more aware of what needs to be replaced.

4) Carpeting was filthy. I realize that there is a short season here and that rooms are turned very quickly when one family vacates and another starts their stay. The push is on to turn over rooms with great efficiency. That being said, my one-year old daughter, a big crawler, would crawl on the carpet in our unit where after we would realize that her knees, hands and the tops of her feet were absolutely filthy. There needs to be some periodic cleaning of the carpets in between stays. Perhaps hold people to the 3PM check-in (we were given 11:30 which was most generous) and give the carpets a quick steam-cleaning?

Those were the only 4 issues I ran into with the hotel this go-around, and that's pretty close to near-perfect by Wildwood Crest standards. Now onto the good:

1) Staff- new ownership this year brought new staff running the hotel. Everyone, from the owner (who is around with great frequency) to his office team, is extremely pleasant and very helpful. The same can be said about the housekeeping and maintenance groups. It's nice to walk onto a property where everyone is smiling and truly appears to be enjoying what they are doing.

2) Room- other than the issues raised above, the room worked out great. We had a larger efficiency unit and it more than accommodated our group of 2 adults and 3 kids. The room is in need of an update but I understand that the first floor will be renovated for the beginning of next season. Honestly, you spend so little time in the room that what you would come to demand of a traditional hotel room versus a Wildwood Crest beach motel are two different things.

3) Facilities- staff does a great job keeping up with cleaning of the grounds and common areas. Chairs and tables were clean. There was no trash found about and by sunrise you would see a great amount of effort put into keeping things in good shape, including the beach area in front of the hotel which isn't even their responsibility to maintain. Housekeeping is very efficient at cleaning your room- it seemed as though they were in and out in less than 1/2 hour.

4) Convenience- great location near the southern part of Wildwood Crest and even if there's crowds, it never feels crowded. The beach is at your feet and less than a 3 minute walk gets you to the water. In terms of places to eat within walking distance, there are several cafes in adjacent hotels but nothing at the Paradise. They will however recommend local fare.

We greatly enjoyed our stay this year and will be booking for next year when their schedule opens up. I know that ownership must read these reviews and my criticisms-above are more of an "FYI/Please Change" then they are a rant about the property. Thanks to those at the Paradise for giving our family another great year in Wildwood.

Just finished a week vacation at this hotel. The hotel is very clean, the location is awesome for the beach, nice clean pool, very friendly staff...owner was a great guy! Gave us suggestions on where to go out to eat. The only issues I had were that the place needs updating, but from what I hear they are going to start renovating rooms, which is great, and we had an issue with families that came down(about 15 families all together)and just took over the hotel...not the hotels fault, but it was annoying and they honestly didn't care that anyone else was there. Other than that, we did enjoy ourselves and the hotel is really a nice place to stay!
