This was our first time at this restaurant for seven fish dinner for Christmas Eve. Was very disappointing to say the least. The appetizers was skippy..not enough for three people as was the fish dishes. However, the food was tasty but just not enough for the $30.00 per person. And the desert was Panettone??? Who serve panettone for desert (bread)!!! We were expecting at least some sort of Italian pastry. So people save your money...next Christmas Eve and skip this restaurant entirely.!!!!

New owners Keith and James are WONDERFUL! Food and service outstanding. Family friendly and great for a date night. A fabulous addition to dining in Hunterdon County!

Based on other reviews, we tried Max's for dinner last evening. Found it a bit pricey for the local and atmosphere. Service was prompt and very efficient. They have scented oil on the tables with wooden sticks embedded to give off a scent. It was overpowering in my opinion, and not appropriate for pleasant dining. More suitable for restrooms. Wine selection excellent together with seasonal, craft beer. Then the meal. We both had caesar salads that were good, not great. At $8 a pop expected something a bit more. My pasta with white clam sauce was tasteless, and several clam shells were broken leaving pieces of shell, sliver sized mixed in with the pasta. Have never had that experience before, do not wish to repeat it. In all, an $85 unenjoyable pasta dinner. Not a very good first experience.

Max is retiring and sold the restaurant to new owner in May 2012. Judging by our meal, the new owners are doing better than people felt the old regime was doing. We were first served complementary bruchetta-like appetizer. Nice. Also had some nice rolls dusted with cheese. For dinner, the lady had Pescatore fra diavolo. God selection of seafood - but most importantly the spicy of the sauce was just right. (Often this dish is served too mild.) I had the skirt steak with chimichurri sauce with del monico potatoes and mixed veg. The steak we described as chewy-tender. Good flavor. The mixed veg were were good, but a bit on the greasy side, and not hot. The potatoes were simply awesome - blended in bacon, onions and peppers. Service was spot on. Wine list has many reasonable bottles. Prices a bit high for a non-BYO. Overall very good.

New owners have made a huge difference. They actually care about their food and customers. What a concept. If you've been there before and said "never again", go back. The new owners deserve it.
