We stayed at this hotel for a wedding and I had requested a noon check-in when I made the reservation, hoping to be able to dress for the wedding there, rather than make the two hour drive in our wedding finery. When I called at 9:15 AM to inquire if the early check-in would be possible I was curtly told "I doubt it, we're booked up and check-out is noon" I realize the early check-in was not guaranteed but a nicer reply such as "I'm sorry, it doesn't look like your room will be ready that soon" would have made for a much better initial impression. So we went to the wedding and "tried" to check-in between the ceremony and the reception at about 3:15. Again we were given a very curt reply, "your room won't be ready till 4, check-in is at 4". So we sat in the lobby with other wedding guests also trying to get into rooms that apparently all magically become clean at the stroke of 4PM. At 3:58 we again went to the desk and were finally allowed to check-in. I want to express my appreciation to the staff for so graciously allowing us into our room a full 2 minutes early. Oh wait, by the time we got to our room it was past 4 and so we missed the spectacle of housekeeping staff exiting all rooms at 4 on the nose. As it turned out we were among the luckier guests, as, when the limo arrived at 4:30 to take guests to the reception, many of them still had not been able to check-in. In talking with others at the reception we learned that members of the wedding party had had a similar experience the day before. When we returned that evening looking forward to a restful sleep, we were sorely disappointed. While the rooms are quite nice and the bathroom is well appointed (other than the towel rack IN the shower, who's idea was that!?) the walls are quite thin. We could hear guests talking in the next room and they didn't seem to be talking overly loudly. The doors to the rooms are extremely heavy (I had to pull with two hands and all my weight behind it) and when other guests let them slam shut nearby, they literally shook the walls. That was not the biggest problem, however; that would be the elephant stomping back and forth till well past midnight in the room overhead. I realize that noisy guests are not the fault of the hotel but overall, between that and the snooty attitude, I would think twice, maybe even thrice, before staying here again. Another strike against this hotel is that they don't include breakfast which is unusual for a hotel of this type. The Cracker Barrel across the road has a nice breakfast menu at reasonable prices.
And what is it with rude, noisy guests anyway? I just might make it my mission in life to travel the country and teach hotel etiquette classes, FREE of charge because obviously generations of parents failed to instill basic, common courtesy in their children, as evidenced by the boys dribbling a soccer ball in the hallways at 9AM on a Sunday.
