This is the best of the Mercer County courses. The tee time system leaves a great deal to be desired.

County course, so residents get the best rates, but it is not too expensive at the guest rates. Nice clubhouse for the 19th hole!

I'm a 10 handicap, live locally and play here 15-20 times a year. The place has 2, 18 hole courses. The West course is older and is built in the parkland style. Fairly flat and easily walkable with a few challenging holes. The 17th is it's signature hole, a true par 4 wrapping around beautiful Lake Mercer. The East course in contrast is built in the wide open links style. On a windy day, it can be very challenging. On a calm day, it's exposed for a birdie attack.
Since both courses are relatively flat, weekend tee times almost guarantee a 5+ hour round because you must trudge behind foursome after foursome of old people out to get their exercise with a way too generous (IMHO) senior discount rate. Play on a weekday and you can generally walk-on with little wait time for a single. Anything more than a single definitely requires a reserved tee time, any day. Bunkers are sometimes raked daily and the pro shop staff is composed entirely of grumpy old retired men. The pro is nice but hardly seen unless you are at an official outing.
There are many, many more challenging public tracks within an hours drive of these courses. (Check out Makefield Highlands just across the river in PA for instance if you're looking for a challenge) But if you just need to get out and bang it around a bit, this fits the bill and won't disappoint an average golfer at all.
A modest range with natural grass(!) and 2 chipping/putting greens are nice to practice and warm up on.
