“Go for the pool, not for the beds or the food service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2009

We had stayed in January 2008 for a wedding and had a nice time so decided to bring the kids back this February for a weekend away. Kids always remember the hotel pool no matter where you take them on vacation so we planned this trip around that idea :-) They had a blast at the pools and were in and out about six different times over two and a half days. However, I must have had too much to drink the wedding weekend to recall that the beds were nothing special and the hotel is NOISY at night. For paying resort prices, I expect a comfy bed with more than two horrible pillows to choose from. I read a lot of reviews that indicate the halls are noisy and crowded all night long and it begs the question as to why the hotel doesn't have staff walk through and monitor it every so often. The hotel offers a lot without seeming too large so I think parents take advantage of that and let their kids run all over the place. If this is where you are going for a relaxing weekend away, this is not your best bet. For a quick weekend away with the kids, maybe this will do. Oh, and while the food at Kites tastes okay, you will grow old and gray waiting for the service. Save yourself the stress and disappointment by going down the road to the George Inn for great and affordable meals, or drive about ten miles into Warwick NY and eat dinner or lunch at Frattello's - it was delicious and the staff was awesome!

Dear Guests,

Thank you for your recent visit.
We have taken notes on your review, and we regret that we failed to meet your expectations with the restaurant. We encourage everyone during President's week or any holiday week/weekend to make reservations to accommodate service so there are no delays. Our guests with families do have a grand time when they come here, and so do the couples without children who we try to keep secluded in their own area, but we are mostly geared towards families, and during that week (holiday), we were filled with happy families.

We hope to see you again,
Management

It was very disappointing to have check in at 4:00 pm and they make you wait till 4:00 with no guarantee that the room will be ready until 5:00. I called the restaurant Kites at 4:10 to find out they were completely booked, which was another disappointment. Could not get on the basketball court all night because it was so crowded and the rest of the workout facility was not for children under 16. The lobby was freezing cold and the staff was extremely unhelpful. We booked the deluxe room with the king bed and the fireplace and were suppose to get a balconey with a view of mountains. Our view was a brick wall and the room was not very impressive. I feel for the money we spent it was not an enjoyable stay and will not be returning. Lastly, the pool looked like it was in need of repairs and the water was cold.

We absolutely encourage the many guests that stay at Minerals to post their thoughts on Trip Advisor and other customer review sites.
We are very proud of our hotel and would like nothing more than to have potential guests read first hand how pleased our customers are with our Resort.
I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. President’s week is the busiest week of the year.

We felt ripped off. We booked a ski and stay option. THERE IS NO SKIING at Minerals. Instead we were charged almost $400.00 per night for a $35.00 per night Howard Johnson Room, no Refridgerator, no mini bar. You got a Bed, bath, TV and Telephone; and given free/unlimited tickets to the SKI LIFT at the neighboring Ski Resort.
So, there was no skiing, in this EXPENSIVE ski and Stay package, We went over to the neighboring resort and paid to use their skiing/tubing facilities; PLUS we we left after 4 days with a $2000.00 bill for their $35.00 per nigh Howard Johnson Room.
The worst value for money evey spent. We felt ripped off. Good Luck if you choose to stay at this ski resort with NO SKIING and the most minimal room for maximum dollar.

Dear Lydia Moolenaar,

We truly regret that your ski stay with us was not what you expected. Our website describes our resort as follows:

"Treat yourself to a fun-filled ski vacation in New Jersey at Crystal Springs Resort. Experience this four-season destination resort, which adapts the quaint charm of the Poconos to the Kittatinny Mountains of Northern New Jersey. Located just 47 miles from Manhattan, Crystal Springs offers the perfect choice of accommodations for those looking to engage the slopes of nearby Mountain Creek Ski Resort"

All skiing is located at Mountain Creek which is only a few miles away, we provide shuttle service to the skiiers and our ski packages are discounted compared to any hotel in the area.

This "Romance Package" was a gift from our family. While we were very relaxed and had an enjoyable time, we did not feel there was value for the money. The rooms were nice and spacious, but definitely not "plush". We are very big travelers and stay at 4-5 star resorts, this would be at best a 3.5. The spa was very nice.

Dear Romance guests,

Thank you for your review.

We are considered a family resort, however Grand Cascades is our 4 Star hotel and very plush, which is how you describe what you're looking for. Please consider our sister property for your next romantic getaway, it will be all that you expect and more.

Thank you for staying with us.

My husband and I just returned after spending the weekend at Minerals. The room we had was the middle priced room and it was very clean and new. There was a fireplace, microwave, fridge, and a balcony with a lovely view of the mountains. There is a fabulous indoor pool with waterfalls and hot tubs. The gym facilities were great. There are group fitness classes but we didn't take them. We went to the spa (Elements) and had massages. The spa is beautiful and well run. It is not that big so make reservations in advance. There is a restaurant on the property called Kites which is "ok" we went there for lunch and it was good but we heard dinner isn't great. There were couples and families there. The sister property called the Cascade Lodge is more high end and is geared more to couples than families. There is a shuttle that runs between the 2 properties which we used to go to dinner both nights. Latour is unbelievable. There are only 12 tables and it is $$$$ but such a wonderful dining experience. The Crystal Tavern was also great bar food and a fun atmosphere. The staff was nice. We had asked to move rooms after being woken up throughout the first night by a baby whose parents were letting her cry herself to sleep. We went away to get away from being up in the middle of the night! We were accommodated immediately. The 2 most helpful people we encountered were Brian at the front desk and Frank the van driver. The downfall of this place we felt was that it is trying to be a high end resort but the staff is made up mostly of high school and college kids that respond to questions like high school and college kids. We will definitely go back with the kids since there a lots of things for them to do.

  • Liked — The cleanliness and the amenities offered
  • Disliked — Since it is not all inclusive you need to call and make reservations for dinner/spa on your own and there may not be availablility for the weekend you planned to go

We have been to Minerals hotel a few times! We very much enjoy the convience. The hotel has a beautiful ambience. Our son loves to swim in the outdoor heated pool especially when we go in October! We loved the Spa right downstairs...it dosen't get better then that.
I would hightly recommend the Minerals Resort

The staff is polite and accomodating. You feel part of something special. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel is great for families, couples or basically anyone who is looking for relaxation.
I personally go there at least once a month and there is always something to do if not in the hotel, in the surrounding area.
It's really great.
