“Great place for family fun and golf”
Reviewed September 2, 2008

We have been going to Minerals Hotel for the last few years both for a winter break and our summer company get together.

Jim Herman and his staff go out of there way to take care of us. Whatever our needs (and our summer group is close to 200 people) is taken care of. He is always hands on on seems to be there 24 hours a day looking after us.

The food was very good and the local golf courses are great.

We hope to be able to go back for many years because of Jim's and his staff's personel toach.

Beautiful rooms with fabulous lagoons, pools and family friendly! Even in the rain our children had plenty to do. Wonderful golfing too- we can't wait to come back!

Although the grounds and views are beautiful, this hotel is overpriced and not worth a trip.

Here are the problems we encountered: staff was not friendly or helpful; 1 pool closed for the whole weekend but no explanation why; only 1 pool heated - other pools were very cold, therefore, everybody was in the small, overcrowded heated pool. At 10:30 at night, other guests had a key to our room and opened our door (luckily not waking up our 4 year old). We called to the desk and were told our room was "vacant". We told the desk this was impossible and she then said the guests made a mistake with the rooms - How then, were they able to open the door? Obviously she gave them the wrong room. My husband even went downstairs to further investigate but got nowhere - and received a small apology.

The air conditioner was right next to the bed and it blew cold air and was freezing. The choice was to either be hot or freeze - the room should have been arranged better.

Don't be fooled by the game room - it had 2 video games, a broken foos table, and old air hockey. Plus, the change machine did not work. The room is the size of a bathroom.

Also, beware that some of the children's activities were extra money such as cooking classes, etc.

As a workout fanatic I was anxious to try out their fitness area. I found it average - nothing special about the facilities - the equipment was somewhat crowded and when I asked if the pilates lessons were performed on a "reformer" the girl at the desk said - I don't know what that is. If you are working in a gym, you should be familiar with all the equipment.

And forget about the spa - way too expensive. I can get those services elsewhere for a lot less money.

We ate at Kites - our dinner was good but expensive - the breakfast was reasonably priced but not good. And our dinner at Owen's Pub on one of the golf courses was good.

I had really been looking forward to this weekend trip with my family. The website made it look wonderful - and yes, it does look wonderful - but that's it - it lacks in many areas that need improvement.

I was pleasantly surprised by the resort. We spent a weekend with two other couples (we all have young children) and had a blast. The pools kept the kids happy and busy and the spas entertained the ladies. The guys enjoyed one of the prettiest courses I ever played (Cristal Springs). Good food, nice rooms, good value, I would definitely come back next year.

My husband and I took our children to the Minerals Hotel for the first week of August 2008. We exhanged our timeshare through Interval International for a three bedroom condo at the Minerals Resort.

To make it easy I will breakdown our experience.

Condo

We had a three bedroom condo supposedly with one queen, a trundle and two twin beds. When we arrived we had two queens and one double. We called the front desk and asked if they possibly had a condo with the beds on our confirmation sheet. The woman we dealt with was extremly uncooperative/rude. She told us there was a trundle bed and we just had to look for it. So we looked in every nook and cranny and called her back and told her there was no trundle bed. She told us they were just in the unit and there was a trundle bed. So, she said she would have to send maintenance up and show us the bed. Maintenance came and we showed them there was no trundle bed. She offered us another unit but prefaced it by saying it was very old and not as nice as what we had. So, we asked to see the unit and we were denied that. She said they had people waiting to check in and therefore we could not see the unit. She said if we switched units we could not come back to the original unit. Needless to say, after seeing the condition of the unit we were in, we declined the offer but asked for a bed setup for the couch.

At this point, I called Interval International and asked if they could help us. They called and spoke to the woman we had dealt with (the resort said there was no manager on site) and she outright lied and said we declined to look at the unit. We never did received that bed setup. My husband went the next morning to get the setup.

The unit itself was built in the late 80's and was very old. The carpeting was tattered on the edges and stained. The door was falling off the television stand, the doors upstairs were falling off. The AC didnt work well and most days although we had it set at 70 it was 78. Most of the furniture was scratched and dented. The cleanliness of the unit was marginal. Walls were dirty and stained, food in the couches (we found that when we were looking for the trundle bed). Bathrooms not too clean, leaky faucets. Washer/dryer in unit took hours to dry a load. Soooo disappointing.

We did not know prior to going to this resort that the resort is a residential community. Most of the people around our unit were permanent residents. It is sort of an odd feeling when your on vacation.

Checkout time is 11 a.m. at the condos and the cleaning crew moved into our condo at 10 a.m. so we left. My husband spoke to the front desk about this and they asked if we wanted to go back.

Resort grounds

The golf course was very nice. We did play and I think the golf courses are better maintained than the grounds or the condos.

The pools (there are several) were nice but very overcrowded. The resort opens the pools to memberships outside of the resort. Chairs were hard to come by - towels were impossible to get. When you could land a towel most times they were stained or ripped. There is a bar and a sandwich/hamburg area. The food there was just OK.

ATM in lobby was broken for days but the front desk kept telling us it would be fixed in one hour.

If you look at the Mineral Springs website you are lead to believe that Cascades Lodge and Mineral Springs are one resort. Quite the contrary. The guests of Mineral Springs have no privileges at Cascades Lodge. Lodge guests can use the facilities at Mineral Springs.

FYI - tennis/racquetball are all extra charges at Minerals Resort.

I have also placed a complaint with Interval International regarding this resort because Interval has certain standards that should be met.

Overall, I think this was the most disappointing vacation we have ever had. This resort is is so poorly managed I honestly cannot think of one reason to recommend it to anyone. Go and golf dont stay the night.

Dear Timeshare guest,

We deeply regret that your Timeshare visit did not meet your expectations. The Timeshare is not part of The Minerals Resort & Spa, but a timeshare company.

We will definitely forward your comments to the appropriate people.

Again we apologize, and if there's anything we can do to make it up to you, please don't hesitate to contact the Timeshare Manager at the Resort.

We are a family of 4, a 5 yr old girl and 2 year old boy. My Wife and I couldnt believe that minerals existed. For years we struggled to find a vacation to accomodate our demographic and Minerals met all of our expectations and more. We traveled with 2 other families and we all agreed it was our best vacation in years. The grounds and activities were fantastic, the restaurant we ate in was GREAT!!! The rooms met our needs with size, cleanliness and class, most places promise and charge you--but dissapoint with accomodations---not Minerals. Most of all the staff treated us better than any had on any vacation we have ever been on. They were knowledgeable and seemed so interested in our needs and not put out in any way. We were also so impressed with the people Minerals attracted. You can keep the likes disney , hershey, sesame with people knocking eachother over to get on a line or get a snack. Minerals had what we have always looked for. Nice, friendly, happy and appropriate vacationers. We saw families like us, young couples, middle-aged to older couples, groups of familes--all vacationing in harmony !!! Minerals was perfect for us, the kids loved it and i am not sure we will see the shore points as much or be so quick to jump on a plane now. Minerals was our best vacation in years and we look forward to getting back there.
