“Great for lunch!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2012

My wife and I had a great lunch here. I had the fried shimp platter and a cup of red chowder and my wife had a shrimp salad sandwich. All very fresh and delicious. Will be back for sure!

“Clam shells...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2012

A hole in the wall place on Rte. 9 but the for is great! Avoid on weekends in the summer. Stuffed shrimp is excellent as is just about everything. Wear your shorts and flip-flops; no dressing up here!

“First time good but not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2012

Stopped for lunch atmosphere is very casual. Ordered crabcake sandwich , my associate ordered fried combo, I had red chowder , he had white. Chowder was excellent. Crabcake good but small, fried combo good but only one shrimp. Would eat here again if in the neighborhood, but will not make special trip.

“A MUST FOR SEAFOOD IN NEW JERSEY!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2011

No frills here just fresh and delicious seafood! Allen's is a great little joint tucked away in New Gretna. The atmosphere is extremely casual...your place mat is the menu and the food is served on plastic section plates. The crab cakes are by far the BEST...100 times better than the crab cakes in Maryland. The sweet, fresh steamer clams come in a bucket and the mussels are never short of 2 dozen per order. The potato salad is perfect and the cole slaw is creamy. The broiled scallops are cooked to perfection and the dungeness crab legs never disappoint either. This is a local place, cash and bring your own. The staff is always friendly and they are open all year long. This is a must try if you are anywhere near the East Coast!

“Headquarters for the classic Jersey shore dinner”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2011

Seafood prepared the way it should be. Broiled, Fried, Steamed,
or in chowders or raw the clams & oysters are the freshest and best.
Flounder, Lobster, & Crabs are all delectable as well.
All of the seafood comes from local commercial fishermen.
We especially like the scallops that are from the Larson family's
(Norwegian descendants) fleet of scallopers. Don't miss the lobster
bisque, but be sure to get there early as this favorite often runs out
by the end of the dinner hours. The restaurant sits just south of the
US Highway 9 bridge over the Bass River in the town of
New Gretna. Route 9 is the alternate route to the Garden State Parkway
in South Jersey and the alleged home of the "Jersey Devil".
