My wife and I met our friends here for lunch yesterday. We had heard good things and our friends had eaten there before and liked it. We were hoping to eat on the deck but rainy weather prevented that. We were seated at the first table inside and the street noise was disconcerting. When a couple motorcycles roared by, we thought they were coming in the door!
The waitress was very lackadaisical and took her time. My friend wanted to try a special brew advertised on their website that was supposed to be on tap, but without even the name mentioned she informed him that they were out of it. When he asked what other brews were on tap she named two and then turned to read the other names from the taps and we couldn't hear what she was saying anyhow. My friend and his wife just ordered the first two mentioned rather than have to go through that again.
Our orders were simple, an onion soup, an order of mild wings, and an order of quesadillas for my friends and a Porky Blue Burger for my wife and the Carolina BBQ pulled pork sandwich for me. I had sweet tea and wife had a glass of white zin. After a rather long wait the soup showed up, another 10 minutes or so and then the wings appeared, a few minutes more for the quesadillas. After a considerable wait longer our burger and sandwich showed up, it was at least a half hour or more from ordering to the serving. My friends appeared to enjoy their soup and apps and they looked pretty good. They did remark that the wings were more on the medium side of hotness. My wife enjoyed her burger and it was cooked medium well, just as she asked. The sweet potato fries were excellent. My pulled pork, however, was excessively peppery, almost to the point that I was considering sending it back. Each bite had to be followed by a slug of ice tea to cool the burning of my lips and tongue. Although the pork was tasty and very tender, there were a lot of big chunks that hadn't been "pulled" very well and it was on the dry side, as there was no hint of any kind of BBQ sauce on it. Maybe that is what "Carolina BBQ" is like... I don't know. I just know that I wouldn't order that again!
Our bill came to almost seventy dollars, with tip we left eighty. Pretty pricey for lunch at a rather non-descript bar. I very much doubt if we will ever return there.
