“probably the best yakitori place in NJ”
Reviewed July 8, 2014 via mobile

wasn't too sure how this place was when I saw the review on tripadvisor but it was a home-run! very good food and very satisfied. the atmosphere is not top-notch but the food was. ordered pork shumai, fried shrimps, chicken wing yakitori, chicken thigh yakitori, scallops yakitori, rice ball with salmon, and tonkasu ramen. if i go back, which I probably would, I would definitely order fried shrimps, chicken wing yakitori, scallops yakitori and tonkasu ramen. ramen was very thick but good. you can order a half size ramen and you need to ask for a separate menu for ramen. the chicken thighs were ok... and rice ball with salmon was really good but either too much rice or too little salmon was in there. but highly recommend everyone to go.

“Just Like in Tokyo”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

Stepping through the doors transports one to the side streets of Tokyo and the great smells, taste and service of a classic Yakitori style restaurant. Be adventuresome and try their delicious specials.

“I left hungry”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

After reading a sterling review in the Record, I tried it. Cannot understand the excitement. The portions are miniscule. I ordered a few different dishes. They added up money-wise but not taste-wise. Also, the decor and colors are gloomy. I'll usually cut some slack for a small, local restaurant, but I just don't see any appeal at this one.

“Delicious and Worth the Trip”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

Why 39? Because, in Japanese, the number sounds like, "Thank you." Been here four times, always good. Most of the time, we're the only Westerners in the house. Service is friendly and helpful. But, the food is what draws us back. Thinly sliced fresh raw fish with truffle oil reminds me of LA. The sushi place next door may now be part of the business, too. The specialty is skewers of little chunks of meat grilled well: chicken, breast, thigh, skin, liver, heart with sauce or salt. Duck breast is meaty but can be overcooked to get the skin crisp on the grill. Juicy Pork belly, too. Try black beer, a Japanese dark style. A foodie experience and fairly priced.
