Pros
Bed was most comfortable wife and I ever slept in at a hotel
Location in cute historic town felt very special
Look and feel of hotel was historic and warm
Free full fledged breakfast buffet
Starbucks coffee and tazo tea in lobby
Room and bathroom feel very much like a home away from home
Friendly and helpful staff

Cons
No frills or bells and whistles - fridge (extra $20), microwave, vending machine
Some parts look really new while others look really old (not a big deal)
Elevator looks really old
A bit pricey (but was worth it to us)
Our hallway smelled smokey, but it dissipated once we were in our room.

My wife and I would recommend this place

This was a last minute reservation, so problems were expected. I was guaranteed a wheelchair accessible room (my husband is disabled) but I have learned to follow up on every reservation. Of course when I stopped by early in the day, prior to checking in,I was told there were no accessible rooms available, but maybe someone would be checking out. After fiiddling around on the computer, the 2 lovely ladies at the front desk were able to find the proper room for us. Another slight problem occurred when we noticed there wasn't a "shower chair", which is required in ADA rooms. It took a little while to locate one, but they did. I understand this an old lovely hotel that has been modified to ADA requirements, but there isn't a counter in the bathroom. No place to put even a toiletry bag other than the floor. Other than that, it was a nice stay.

I recently checked in to the hotel, in late November. Unfortunately my flight was delayed so my arrival was around midnight and i was given "the last room left".
It's bad enough that this building is old, not updated, lacking the basic convenient amenities inside(ie vending machines) but apparently they don't heat the rooms before your arrival.
I enjoy cool temperatures to sleep in but this was inexcusable. After complaining to the front desk(the old guy there yelled at me) and having the maintenance supervisor stop by, they only thing offered was "it should heat up in a few hours"..it never did
You know they have to pinch pennies, said the supervisor...
love to see how it is in the summer months.....my advice stay away at any price

Dear Mark090702,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide us with a review of your recent stay with us. We were disappointed to hear of your experience at our property and will be sure to address the areas of criticism you provided.

Regarding your comments that the hotel is old, it was built in 1929 and our ownership group continues to spend significant money to keep the product updated and comfortable for all of our guests. Many of our frequent guests return to the property in appreciation of the charm, elegance, and intimacy that our hotel provides.

Regarding the room not being properly heated prior to your arrival, we will continue to work diligently to ensure an optimum temperature prior to guest arrival.

Regarding a lack of vending machines, the hotel does offer both soda and snack vending machines so I apologize if we failed to communicate this to you. In addition, we have sandwiches and salads available 24 hours a day for all guests and our very popular HAT Tavern is open until midnight for all guests. Room Service serves until 11pm.

I hope that you will call me personally when your travels take you to our area again so that we can provide you with the level of service and product we strive to provide to all of our guests.

We thank you again for your feedback and will work hard to correct the areas where we fell short of expectations.

Sincerely,

Michael Marino

Recently stayed with the family for a Friday night. We booked 2 queen rooms for 3 adults and
2 children. Since the rooms are quite small, the Asst. General Manager, Michael Marino was kind enough to search for a double for my sister and kids. He really was such a friendly and
helpful person. The breakfast buffet was quite large, (just missing pancakes and waffles) and had lots of fruit, all kinds of cereal, bagels, muffins, cheese blintzes, eggs,....... quite enough-
The only issue was that parking costs $9. Aside from that, I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Great location.

Stayed at hotel and also attended banquet there. Staff was particularly helpful in many respects. The location, close to center of town cannot be beat. All aspects of the experience were very good - reservations responded to issues of the rate to us with a personal call. Breakfast buffet was plentiful in choices, hot, and wait service was attentive as well. The banquet was also very nicely done. Housekeeping were thorough as was. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.

I did not use the spa/fitness area, but it looked fine.

Room Tip: Our room faced the street, 3rd floor. No noise from street traffic was heard.

Dear Jackson1812,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide us with feedback regarding your stay both positive and negative.

I am disappointed to hear that our staff failed to make you feel welcome, and you can be sure this will be addressed with our team. We strive to provide a strong welcome to all of our guests and we will continue to work hard to ensure this takes place with all of our guests that we appreciate very much.

For future reference, we do have sandwiches and salads available to guests 24 hours a day and our very popular HAT Tavern is open until midnight to serve all of our guests. Our restaurant stays open later than any other competing hotels in the area and our frequent customers cite this as very important.

We look forward to the chance to host you again and to deliver the service level you expect from a hotel of our caliber.
