“Poor Value”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2012

We stayed at the Residence Inn Mt Olive for over a week (we had to stay in town for family reasons) and found it to be dirty and poorly maintained. When we arrived, we noticed the room was smelly from dirt and stale fabric and that all the surfaces (handles, light switches, etc...) had dust and black grime somewhere on it. The walls had tons of splatters. We purchased febreeze, lysol disinfecting wipes and bleach and I cleaned the room top to bottom - removing what seamed like years of filth from some crevices and surfaces that looked as if they had never been cleaned, ever. The air intake vent in the living room for example, was CAKED in dust and grime. Gross. There were rips in the cushions in our room and in the lobby. We paid so much for our suite that it just really surprised us how grungy it was.
The front desk staff was friendly but the management seemed very rigid to us considering how long we were staying. Some of the house cleaning staff tried to accommodate but generally, the cleaning seemed to consist of spreading very heavy deodorant around the room. We choked every time we walked back in the room after it was 'cleaned'. One time, housekeeping knocked on our door to make up our room at 4 pm. We asked for 5 minutes so that we could vacate the room, but the housekeepers said: "we have to clean it right now because our ride gets here at 4 pm" - Really?
There's a sign on the lobby wall listing the corporation that owns the facility and another that manages it. It seemed pretty clear to us that corporate-owned and corporate-managed means that no one really cares about the place.

I was travelling with friends and a dog. Delays in the trip made it time to stop for the night, but not near any "major place." It is very difficult to find clean, decent lodgings that accomodate pets without charging an arm and a leg. I found the property on the Garmin and called. Residence Inns are created for the long-term away-from-home stays, so their one time pet fee is priced accordingly. We were only staying for one night, so the agent agreed to adjust the fee for us. Not only that, but she was very kind helping us located places to eat, suggesting who would deliver, which were the best value, etc. I felt so comfortable and welcomed. I've stayed at five star hotels, and the service here was as good. The breakfast buffet was quite good, with a nice selection. The attendant kept things stocked and the warm food hot. She did it all with a smile. The bed was quite comfortable, and the room was spotless. The kitchen was equipped well. Although we didn't use the pool and spa area it looked quite inviting, and was a good size for a small hotel. I definitely would stay there any time I'm in the area.

Room Tip: I did not notice any noise from near-by Route 80, but if one is disturbed easily it might be wise to...

We stayed for one night for business. Our room was a studio queen and was very comfortable. The room has a kitchen area, couch, & fireplace. Only paid $80. on a weekend. The only thing was there were a lot of kids in the pool area and it made it very noisey & not relaxing.

Our family stayed at this property for 12 nights whilst visiting family in the area. We had initially booked a 1-bedroom for the four of us but the sofabed is extremely uncomfortable to sleep more than 1 person. We upgraded to a two-bedroom, which is a much better option for 4 people. It is pricey for the area if you are paying full price. However, our family lives in Flanders and this is the best hotel for the area.

Room Tip: If more than 3 people are travelling, the 1-bedroom is not comfortable enough.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2011

My family of three stayed in a queen bed with sofabed room. The room was very spacious with a full kitchen, coffee maker and microwave. The flat screen television could be turned toward the queen bed or sitting area. The large sink area was outside of the bathroom. The room was well appointed with modern furniture, the bed and sofabed were comfortable, and the room smelled and looked very clean. It is a pet friendly hotel so be sure to ask for a no pet room. Also, apparently on certain nights the management provides an evening reception with food (burgers, hot dogs, salads, watermelon) and drinks (soft drinks, beer). My family did not stop by reception but it was a nice touch.

Now for my concerns…our room was $165 a night. While the room was very nice, I don’t why a hotel in this neighborhood costs so much. My family was displaced for a week due to the power outage caused by the early snowstorm. I hope Marriott was not taking advantage of a bad situation.

Also, check-out is at 12:00 p.m., yet my key card no longer worked after 11:10 a.m. I had to go all the way back down to the front desk and have my key card reprogrammed in order to get back in my room. The girl at the front desk stated “yes, it’s about time for the cards to no longer work.” What, I still had 50 minutes to vacate the room! Management needs to reprogram their system.

My family was in the middle of construction and had to get out of our home. We stayed at this residence inn and were very happy with the facilities and cleanness of the hotel. A great stay for a family in Northwestern NJ.
