We stopped in at Shakey Jakes on the way to somewhere and had a bit over an hour. It was lunch time in the winter and not particularly busy. The atmosphere is a rustic country pub, with simple seating and nice enough decor. The sign asking the motorcycle gangs to leave their colors outside was a bit concerning, but it really was not busy when we visited.
We order fairly simply off the appetizer menu, expecting it to all be delivered together in a reasonable period of time. The first course of appetizers was delivered after about 40 minutes and was not special in any way. We asked about the pace and were told that they prepared everything after it was ordered. When we said we did not have time to wait for the next round, we were told they would have to charge us anyway because of how they prepare things.
They did not end up charging us for the appetizers we did not receive, but overall, we were sufficiently disappointed that we will not choose to return.
It appears the delay was because of some pickup orders they processed first. Perhaps if we were regulars we would have been paid more attention to and possibly given quicker service. If so, Shakey Jakes would probably have risen up only as far as Average.
