“We are going back!!!! : )”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2009

We just got back from a fabulous weekend at Spring Lake, We stayed at the Hewit-Wellington. The room was spacious, the staff there Aramis and Claudette could not have been more helpful, friendly, outgoing, and personable. They both helped us plan our weekend there...told us what places were good to eat at and how to get into town which is very nearby. They also provided us with the history of Spring Lake, since it was out first time there, we were curious and they were both more than happy to oblige. Our suite #15 was very spacious and clean and we were very happy with the decor and the comfort. We ate dinner at the restauraunt Whispers located at the hotel and were again very happy with the food, the staff and the ambience. It is a BYOB establishment, so keep that in mind if you are planning on having some wine with your meal. They have a great heated pool and the people we met there were so friendly and outgoing as well. We were both so satisfied with the frienly staff..the beautiful hotel and the great front porch which we sat out throughout the weekend sipping iced tea, or our morning coffee and enjoying the view of Spring Lake,. As soon as we are able to do so, we are going back. Thank you Aramis and Claudette for all your help and for making us feel like family

The hotel itself is nice. Our room (#17) was small, but the bathroom was very spacious. Their website states that beach chairs are included, but the supply is limited and none were available. Beach badges were given to us, which was nice. It is a little bit of a hike to the beach from the hotel. It is only about three blocks to the ocean, but due to cul-de-sacs, you have to take a curcuitous route which is longer. The breakfast selection is very limited (even for a continental, in my opinion) and not set out until around 8:15am. What really soured our trip was the $54 parking ticket we received for parking one and a half blocks from the hotel. The hotel does not have a parking lot. There are some on-street spots in front of the hotel (not enough for all guests), but no signs indicating that they are for hotel guests. NO ONE told us that there is NO street parking at night (2 - 6am). The woman who checked us out at departure told us about the parking siuation after I mentioned getting the ticket. I do not recall seeing any notice in the room, but it may have been there and we just didn't see it. Anyway, the $300+ room became even more expensive due to the ticket.

Stumbled upon this hotel when my wife and I were driving around Spring Lake. It was closed for a couple of years and recently reopened. Place is huge, with large porch overlooking the lake. Couple blocks to beach. It has a heated pool and they hosted a party when we were there. Central air is a great plus. Tremedous location. The staff was very helpful, and knew a lot about the area. We got a tour of the rooms that were available. We chose Unit #3 which had a private access to the pool area.

I would go again. Big, quiet and a four star restaurant. They do not have bikes, but did give us beach badges to use.

The hotel is beautiful. The pool is definitely a plus. The breakfast voucher for Cafe des Artistes was a treat and the restaurant terrific. The only complaint is that the staff (except for the younger blonde that works the evening shift, the maids, and the maintenance staff) was laughably unfriendly. I didn't expect to be doted on but no smiles at arrival and smug answers to basic inquiries were ridiculous. When I am shelling out $275-a night plus I expected basic politeness. I was miffed indeed!

  • Liked — Beautiful inn, good location, great balcony.
  • Disliked — The pool closes too early. The townsfolk and staff were unfriendly indeed.
  • Tips/Secrets — Try it for yourself . Overall it was good, but the staff could be more pleasant.
