Came in from out of state for a family member's wedding here. Wedding was beautiful, but the food, service and room was HORRIBLE! The staff threw your plates at you instead of "serving". The food was sub-par and misrepresented on the menu! After a LONG day, our room was one out of a horror movie! Huge, disgusting bugs (well more than a few!) all over the room that was in the basement and DIRTY, SMELLY and not worth $180. They lied about not having any other rooms, as my sister booked after I did and got a balcony room on the top floor! The manager on site was RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL and she should be fired for the way she represented the owners. She told us off and wasn't apologetic or accomodating. She all but cursed at us. The Better Business Bureau and the owner are being informed as well as the Board of Health. DO NOT STAY HERE!

We were really worried when we read the TripAdvisor reviews, but found Doolan's to be a lot better than the reviews said. Yes, it is in disrepair but the linens were clean, the water hot, the water pressure good (a pet peeve of mine) and the staff friendly. Essentially, it is a lower-cost hotel in a high-cost town, what do you expect?

We had our daughter's wedding at Doolan's and it was fabulous. From the early planning phase right up to the wedding day, they were great to work with and everything turned out wonderful. From the cocktail party which was held in a beautiful glass atrium room to the great food to the excellent service and the beautiful ballroom. I have absolutely nothing to complain about. Our guests raved about it for months later. Many guests stayed at the hotel which really worked out great. They were given discounts due to attending the wedding. It made things so nice and easy for the guests. The location is also great. Walking distance to the church, other restaurants and local stores. I highly recommend Doolan's for a wedding or any other function.

We went to a wedding at Doolan's and stayed overnight and came home sick. The place is old, smelly and dirty. I should have gotten a clue when they couldn't get my reservation straight over the phone. When we got there and checked in we were told we had a pool view. Let me tell you the pool view in March is like looking into a sewer. There was garbage in brown water in the pool. Our rooms were small, old, dirty and smelled. The reception seemed to be fine although I found the decor a little old and tacky. Within 48 hours of the reception at least 15 people came down with a stomach virus. Board of Health has been notified and is looking into the matter.

We stayed there because we were guests at a wedding. The hotel is badly in need of updating. Although we were supposed to have a special events rate, it was still way overpriced for the accomodations. The room was not cleaned well--the carpets were dirty (besides being extremely old and worn.) The heating/air conditioning unit had so much dust on the louvers that it was blown into the air when the blower came on. The bathroom tub enclosure was cracked, the sink came without a stopper, many of the fixtures and lamps were rusted. And the toilet periodically ran throughout the night. The beds left a lot to be desired--old, flat, and covered with spreads that should have been replaced years ago. (and we understand that our room was way better than some that other family members had!)

The food at the wedding was definitely not worth whatever price the hosts paid for it. When the wait staff passed around the hot hors d'oevres during the coctail hour they jumped from one corner of each table to another, never allowing most of the rest of the guests at the table to see/hear/request a serving. There was a bug crawling around on one of the chairs.

The place could be a really nice site if the owners would invest in it and update the facilities and improve the banquet food, but not as is!

We found our room dirty with cigarette ashes on the table and dead bugs in the TINY bathroom. The mattresses were old and saggy and the rooms and Motel had an odor. The staff was not very friendly when we asked to switch rooms only to find the next room was worse! Run away!!

Doolans is celebrating its 50th anniversary and it should commemorate the occasion by buying new mattresses, replacing the carpeting and updating the bathrooms. The beds were the worst of any place I have ever stayed, and as a result, I slept on the floor, which was no great shakes either. The carpets were stained, and god knows from what. For those that opt to stay in a bed (in a two queen room), the A/C is about three inches from the bed, so bring those heavy PJ's in the summer.

The brochure says the hotel is 7 blocks from the beach, but its a loooooong 7 blocks. The best bet is to get up early and drive to find a good parking spot. The free continental breakfast was cereal, flat bagels, muffins and juice, all and all, not that exciting.

The one redeeming quality was the pool, which was a big hit with the kids. It closes at 5:00, which was a bummer on hot days.

All in all, stay here if you have to, but try to avoid it unless you have a back of steel.
