For the record, this is an "extended stay" type place. If you sign up for it, realize that you're not going to have roomservice, a concierge or even shampoo in your bathroom! I'm a little surprised at the people who reviewed this place expected more!! For one to five nights, this place is just fine; but keep in mind this is a place for people who technically "move in" for a longer period. In any case... I found all members of the front desk extremely friendly, helpful and they even addressed me formally each time they saw me. Yes, there are times the front desk is vacant, but you simply need to pick up the phone and someone answers/comes running. Another person mentioned no breakfast...well...since then, there is a simple breakfast bar available (and I gotta say, not a bad variety considering some of the other hotels I've stayed in). It's simple, but offers muffins, oatmeal, snackbars, fruit, coffee and tea. Oh, and yeah...because it's extended stay, you will smell foods cooking in other rooms as you walk down the hallway. Yeah, it's "weird" to have to deal with that but again, thats what you get with a place like this. I still cannot comprehend why people can't understand that. In any case, the place was clean, the room was clean and decent and the staff was A+.

I was looking for a low priced hotel, and in point of fact, I did get one. But the lesson that I forgot is that you get what you pay for, and although I did not pay a lot, I sure didn't get a lot, either. The site said the hotel was "newly renovated." It was actually undergoing an overhaul while we were there, so the hotel smelled like fresh latex paint the whole week we were there, even though it was the exterior being painted. They power washed it the first day, so our screens were removed, leaving the windows filthy. There was a huge street light right outside the window, so between the bugs and the glare, we couldn't open them anyway. To say the supplies were sparse would be an understatement--two butter knives, one thin steak knife that couldn't manage to slice bread, two teaspoons and only one soup spoon. None matched and all were worn. One pot, one pan, no utensils. 2 small scratched up plastic glasses and two place settings. No dishwashing liquid. Warned by another reviewer, didn't expect any bathroom amenities, but there was a mini soap. The bed had only two of the limpest, lumpest pillows I've ever seen, which made it impossible to watch the analog TV signal on the huge LCD TV glued to the top of the junior sized dinged-up dresser. I needed that space for my suitcase, because I refused to take my clothes out of it! The well-thumbed (ewwww) porno magazine that fell out of the ironing board kind of set the mood. The low wattage lights made the room even dingier and creepier, dark brown decor notwithstanding. The plumbing fixture was coming out of the wall in the bathtub, which by the way, is going to give way one of these days. The bottom was textured fiberglass, never really clean looking, and it was pretty spongy. If this place was newly renovated (the decor did match the spiffy brochures) I would have hated to see the pre-reno look. I could go on and on, but I think TripAdvisor limits these things, so just be warned--if you can deal with a positively low rent vibe, you will save some bucks. But next time, I think I'll dig a little deeper.

Room Tip: 1. If it's the summer, do not stay near the trash room! 2. There is no automatic opener for ha...

I recently received a copy of your review of the Extended Stay America Somerset - Franklin. Our company prides itself on providing great service and great rooms at great rates, which is why I was so disappointed to read your post. Please accept my most sincere apologies.

As this hotel’s manager, I challenge our staff to continually improve the experience of our guests, from the cleanliness of our rooms, to the courteous professionalism of our staff. Unfortunately, in your situation, it is clear that we were unsuccessful in achieving these goals. Given our belief that guests like you are our most valuable asset, this failure is particularly troubling.

Your review has caused us to take a serious look at the systems we have in place to handle our day to day operations and we will be making modifications as appropriate.

It's not common that we get the sort of feedback you provided, and although it is discouraging to read, it will help us make our hotel even better in the future. Let me apologize again that your stay was not completely satisfying, and assure you that we will continue to listen to our guests in forums like this one or directly (please visit our website and click the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page). I hope we have addressed your concern satisfactorily, and that you would give us the pleasure of having you as a guest again at this hotel or any other Extended Stay Hotels(sm) brand location in the future.

Recently stood at Extended Stay for the Anime Next Convention, so we just needed a base to rest at and shower at. I've stayed at Extended Stay in Chicago near Midway Airport, so I knew what I was getting. My friend had only stayed in a hotel once prior, when she was 5.
Staff at the main desk was very friendly. When we got to our room, I quickly noticed a smell that resembled soup, alphabet soup. It was only in the kitchenette area, and would not go away that easily.
Almost every time we went out, there was never anyone at the front desk! And this was prior to 11pm, when the main door is locked. So if you need something urgently for your room, flip a coin, because there may not be anyone around.
If you are here for the convention center and do not own a car, either stay somewhere closer or prepare for a good 20 minute walk. There is a Subway, a pizzeria (guy is from Brooklyn, so the pizza is awesome), a breakfast bagel place, sports bar (closes at midnight, kinda sad for a sports bar), a chinese (traditional, not the ones you see in the city), and a japanese restaurant.
Extended Stay does not have breakfast, so stock up your fridge especially if you don't have a car. Vending machines in the laundry room have snacks, sodas, water, and any toiletries you may have forgot.
It was good for what we needed the hotel for. But if we come back next year, we may stay at either Doubletree or Holiday Inn simply because events of Anime Next and other Conventions take place in those hotels, which are right next to the Garden State Exhibition Center. It's a matter of convience. But if you need a cheap place to crash during a business trip in the area, if you have a car, give Extended Stay a try. The beds are much more comfortable than other reviews make it sound.

I though this was a great hotel choice for my needs. The kitchen with fridge, microwave and stove were just what I needed (all clean..this is very important to me). Not knowing the area I depended on the staff for guidance. Had a great experience with all, especially the Mgr, his name was Sy. I will be returning for business early summer and will definitely stay again. I have already recommended this hotel to my co-workers.

hotel in the category of Candlewood, Homewood and other extended suites but a bit below in class. priced a bit lower - I can see why - no fitness area or pantry, no shampoo in the shower. otherwise clean and neat. Heater quiet. Situated in a business area where there is a mecca of hotels. Very little restaurant choice within walking distance; malls several miles away. Staff friendly.
