GREAT find I discovered while traveling on weekend business at the Garden State Expo Center (with a friend to help). OK here's the deal: I've been eating sushi for 45 years, so you could say I'm a sushi buff, plus I enjoy other authentic Japanese dishes. They had wonderful oshitashi and hijiki, which you don't find in many Japanese restaurants. Oshitashi is a cold steamed spinach salad with bonito flakes and a light soy sauce, rice wine vinegar dressing. It was the best I've ever had. The spinach still had texture and was spot-on. Hijiki is a dark seaweed salad, usually a little sweet. I loved it. Portions were generous. Then came the sushi. Fresh, delicious and nicely presented. We got into a conversation with our super waitress, Christine, who was very knowledgeable about Japanese food and its authenticity. Even though we didn't order from the hot menu, the aromas emanating from the kitchen were wonderful...and just right! My comment to my travel buddy was, "This is a place where I'd like to return often and eat my way through the menu."
BTW, we ate there on Saturday night. Went back on Sunday. (That should tell you something!) Restaurant was in a strip mall that is nearly empty on weekends, being in the middle of corporate buildings on a side street. Weekends have a very good 1/2 price sushi menu, which we did on Sunday (doesn't apply with the Restaurants.com coupon we used on Sat. night, so we ordered fancy sushi rolls). Christine recommends their nabeyaki udon, which I'll try next time.
Pleasant atmosphere, not overly fancy. Caters to a week-day business crowd. LOVED the Hello Kitty hangings at the back of the restaurant. Five stars to their restroom, too. Very clean.
