“Experience Unique Service at the Bar”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

We jumped into the Anchorage for a brew and sandwich at lunchtime after finding a long wait at Smitty's Clam Bar down the street, our first choice in Somers Point. We've been to the Anchorage before at dinner and had a good time seated on their front porch. "Back in the day", Dad brought the family here when it was a family-style red sauce Italian dive. Few alive today remember that. This time we decided to sit at the bar for lunch.

The Anchorage has a method of serving bar patrons we've never seen before. You can order a drink from the bartender, but not food. If you want food, you stand your menu on end and wait for a server to come by and tap you on the shoulder (so to speak). There's a separate tab for the food and another one from the bar. These bartenders at lunch seem to be prima donnas. Not only don't they have to deal with food, they were gruff and hard to find when needed. We got an evil eye when we asked to run a tab at the bar before knowing the food was separate.

Otherwise, the prices are reasonable and our lunch was, OK.

“OK for a burger and beer (that's it).”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

Stopped in again a few weeks ago after a bad first experience in July. Same experience. Gruff service. Servers more interested in serving locals and talking amongst themselves. Ok for a burger and a beer. If sitting and eating at bar, the bar bill and the food bill is tracked separately. Would go back if service improved. Did I mention we got gruff service? Twice?

“Quick dinner before an outdoor concert”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

Came here this summer for dinner. Hubby had pork chops and sauerkraut. Absolutely delicious.i had a nice salad, but found myself taking little tastes of his mashed potatoes and pork which was way better than what I got! Very crowded at the bar which is understandable for unmet. Fun evening!

“Anyone who appreciates good food should stay away. It was terrible. The bathrooms were even discusting. Need I say more”

Appetizers were so bad. Had the broiled seafood. Clams casino were so bad. Fish was ok. My husband had the grouper. Sent it back. Had a some sort of an orange cream sauce. Sent it back got fish n chips which were just as bad. Place was crowded. Don't think that means its good. It just means there's no where else to go. Owner would be out of business if he pulled this off in north nj or ny

“Huge menu. Loud but comfortable.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013 via mobile

On vacation for two weeks in Ocean City. Visited Somers Point 4 times for dinner. Three of them was at The Anchorage. Once had a filet. Was done perfectly. Next time a burger. Yummy! Tonight I tried the German pork chops. Mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Very good. If you want good food with a layed back atmosphere come here. Great bar. Great drinks. And be sure to ask for Dan as a waiter. He's so sweet and does a wonderful job. We will be back!!!
