I live right out of Somers Point and go to the Clam Bar often. It's a seasonal business that usually opens right before Memorial day and closes a week or so after Labor day. It's always good but always crowded. There are always specials posted on the board (you can't go wrong with one of those). The best time to go is around 5:00 pm during the week if possible. Bring a bottle of wine or some cold beers because there is a real good chance your going to wait. While waiting go around to either side of the building and look out over the bay and marina. There are plenty of benches to sit and relax with your cocktail while watching the hustle and bustle of the 9th St bridge. Bring cash it's all they take

I visited the Clam Bar for the first time this weekend. I went with my sister-in-law who has been going there for years. I had the scallops - unbelievably fresh and great value. The New England Clam Chowder is amazing. A bowl is a meal in itself. It was very casual and I sat at the counter so I didn't have to wait for a table. I loved it so much I went again the next night!

After 7 years at Somers Point, we found this place last year. Just a couple blocks from the circle, it is like stepping back 20 years - to the way the Jersey Shore used to be. Nothing fancy, just excellent food, lots of it, and a relaxed atmosphere. No alcohol, great for kids. (BYOB)

The evening dining is packed, people are everywhere waiting. But it is a friendly wait, everyone knows its worth it, just be patient. If this is your first time, go for lunch, less crowded and the food is just as good. If you have any inclination towards it, try the clam chowder- and then take a gallon home.

I don't know how these people do it, but they are offering great food at reasonable prices. In todays economy, they should be planning to open one of these locations approximately every 1/4 mile from Cape May to New York and then start spreading west. They might just save the world from ruin.

Seems any place around this area will include a wait in season. Make sure you bring something to do! The roving server provided a bottle opener and paper cups to drink our wine. We also ordered some food while we waited to go to munch on, which was a nice surprise. The workers are all super nice. Restaurant is BYOB and Cash only; manhattan clam better than new england. The wife and two teenagers didn't really like it all that much.
