“Nice Bed and Breakfast”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

Our first time at a Bed and Breakfast we were somewhat hesitant, but, this is a really nice place to kick back, relax and enjoy. Inn was clean, staff pleasant and friendly. The shops in the village are small but interesting. Two local restaurants on the property provided excellant dining. I would go back again just to relax, and relax and relax....

We had a very nice stay at this wonderful little inn. We stayed in "the barn" lodging which is separate from the main building. It was quiet, extremely clean, very large bedroom and bathroom, comfy bedding.....just very nice! Located in a quaint little shopping village off the beaten path. Nice little bakery/breakfast spot within walking distance. Friendly staff. Close to Atlantic City and NJ beach resorts but, not in the hustle and bustle of it all.

We had an issue with a very loud, obnoxious guest with anger issues during our stay early summer. The staff took our complaint very seriously and moved us to a different part of their B&B so we wouldn't have the same issue the next night. They really cared about us and it showed. We ended up have such a wonderful vacation because of the owner and her great family/staffers. Plus, the Colonial Inn is a beautiful, clean, and lovely place to stay! We will return again and again.

We booked this through specialicious. Our room was huge with fridge microwave and steam shower. The woman at the front deak couldn't have been nicer! we had a nice continental breakfast each morning. And unlimited coffee and other complimentary drinks as well as fresh baked cookies in the morning. We stepped out of our door to a variety of interesting shops that we could wander through. A great place to stay on your way to the beach.

We visited for the 4th of July festivities. Pluses: proximity to Atlantic city, nice interesting shops, small town feel with friendly local folks, restos and bakeshops were well priced. We got the village room which is not part of the inn...beautiful and spacious room with microwave and fridge. Received a coupon book for most of the stores around town. Pretty good deals.
Negatives: We thought we woul have Wifi but only Inn rooms get free wifi which was really disappointing. Had to walk over to the Inn to use the Internet. The steam shower wasn't clean, some tiles were moldy.
I guess for the price, it was an okay stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the Inn.

First I would like to say thank you for staying at the Colonial Inn and taking the time to review us online. Our customers are very important to us and we take your reviews very seriously. We have 25 rooms here in Historic Smithville and have had issue's getting WiFI to 4 of those rooms. We thought offering WiFI in the Colonial Inn cafe would offset the issue but after reading your review ,I will be re visiting that issue and once again attempt to get the WiFi to the 4 rooms nestled into the Village.
We believe giving our guest a clean environment is most important thing we can do, it show's that we respect your business. I have personally address the shower issue bringing in an outside company to steam clean the shower. They did point out that many of the spots that I was seeing were stains, as I had suspected, that they were not active mildew . Thank you again for taking the time to review us and I am glad, over all your visit was enjoyable.

Last week we stayed for 2 nights at the Colonial Inn Bed and Breakfast in Smithville, NJ. It is conveniently located in the middle of shops and restaurants. We had a corner room right on the water with many windows. The room also had a jaccuzzi and a fire place. It was very clean and spacious. On the negative side, there was not enough lighting near the chairs so that one could read a book or magazine. We ordered our continental breakfast the day before. In the morning you were able to pick up a picnic basked that was filled with 2 juices, 1 danish or crouscant for each and 1 yogurt per person. For my husband and myself quite frankly, it was not enough for breakfast. I guess if you are a light eater it would suffice. Coffee was there for the taking during breakfast time. In the afternoon there were delicious cookies available and lemonade, tea or coffee.

It was nice to be able to walk everywhere since all the stores and restaurants are right there. It really is a nice area and we certainly would visit again.

Thank you for staying with us at the Colonial Inn and thank you for taking the time to review us on Trip Advisor! I am so glad that you enjoyed the Captain Fitz room, the lake side view in that room is just wonderful.
We were so glad to hear that you would be visiting again. October is a wonderful time of year with all the fall decorations or over the Holiday's with the light show on the lake. Whatever time of the year you decide to visit we will look forward to seeing you again.

This boutique inn is part of the Old Smithville Historic Restoration and is located on a pretty pond. In fact, our room was right on the pond, with the water coming right up to below the large picture window. The Noyes Room itself was large and quite nice, with luxury furnishings. There are a couple of good restaurants within walking distance, and there are many shops within the complex. If these pluses were the only features to discuss, then the inn would be a bargain at the price we paid. But there are a couple of issues (one major) which served to bring down our rating. The biggest problem we had was that the security lights from the village shine right into this room at night, and the curtains only cover the bottom part of the window. So the room was so bright overnight that it felt like daylight----a real issue for a good night's sleep (which bottom line is the most important aspect of any inn stay). I discussed this issue with hotel staff the next morning and they said they would look into it, so perhaps the problem has been alleviated by now.

In addition, the front desk closes at 7PM, and there's no hotel staff on site. As long-term B & B travelers, we prefer on-site innkeepers, but this may not be a problem for others. The free continental breakfast from the adjacent deli is just OK---just pastry or muffins and few other items. Also, the inn's parking lot is on the lot for the shopping area, and on the day we checked in, the lot was busy and we had to park quite a ways away. I would conclude that if the "bright room" issue were corrected, which may not be an issue for the rooms which are not directly on the pond, then this could be a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms right on the lake may get significant light during the night from the shopping center's se...
