“A SWEET Suite at The Colonial Inn”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

We stayed two nights in the heart of historic Smithville. We stayed at the Colonial Inn in the Johnson Suite 202. The suite is charming and keeps the colonial theme throughout. The bathroom was updated with a 6 head shower and a two-person soaking tub! The king size bed was very comfortable and the linens were high end quality. There were two electric fireplaces, one in the bedroom and one in the sitting area. The rooms were CLEAN and the staff at the hotel were very friendly. Each morning, we had a complimentary continental breakfast consisting of warm muffins, coffee, tea, juice and yogurt. Each afternoon, guests were invited for home baked goodies and warm beverages. There were plenty of places to eat, lots of shops to explore and beautiful, clean walkways to stroll through the village. The shop owners were all friendly and either offered free gifts or discounts to those staying at The Colonial Inn. We will definitely return when the weather breaks and draws more people to the village :)

“Fun and Quaint!”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Smithville is always a fun place to shop, especially since I don't care for big box stores. Several of its shops are fair trade, which is important to me, and others carry unique items not available anywhere else. I rarely come back empty-handed! It's easy to walk, particularly for people who have mobility issues; it's small enough to handle, yet full of many wonderful shops. In addition to the shops are several nice restaurants, a B&B, and a lake that is lovely on a summer afternoon or a December night. Even though we live close by, we've stayed at the B&B (once), and had a great time. The train ride is fun for kids, and the ducks that wander the grounds often stop traffic. There's an ornery rooster that crows and isn't at all afraid of cars (for all I know, there are several of them)! Whenever you go, just enjoy it. Smithville is always fun.

“Just OK”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

I was hoping for more of a living history village instead of a shopping attraction. There were a few cool stores but I don't really go on vacation to shop. We did enjoy a few wine tastings at the tasting rooms on site.

“Great place to stroll and shop”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

I usually go to Smithville when they have their Celtic or Renaissance weekend but since we were ten miles away at the Renault winery we just took off to wander around. The weather was sunny and cold but there was no wind. I love poking around the shops and you never know what deals you might find. A great girly get away if your honey doesn't like shopping.
Check out their 'Themed weekends'. Great music, shopping and food!

“Great place to wander and shop”

There is so much to see and do here. Lots of unique, individual shops and a few good eateries. There is a real train and a carousel for children which are so much fun. Always a great destination for a nice day.
