“Has been a "must do" on our vacation list for years!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

One of my favorite restaurants on LBI. The yellowfin burrito is outstanding, the rice and beans fantastic. We've tried most things on the menu and are never disappointed. Laid back atmosphere, clean and the surf decor and videos make you feel like you are on vacation! Can't wait to return this summer.

“Special orders DO upset us....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

You know the movies where they show the end at the beginning and then go back in time to explain the events that led to the denouement? My review starts at the end....

....when my brother-in-law walks out in anger while my other brother-in-law squawks about bad customer service to an uncaring waitress/manager, and I pay just to make it be over once and for all.

(Sixty minutes earlier....) My wife and I ask if we can have a marguerite. The answer is NO. We ask if they can accommodate a party of 15. The answer is NO. We ask for and receive a table of 8 and add one person, then the rest of our party comes in. My brother-in-law has the temerity to place his order while still standing (his table was being cleaned). The manager informs him that he needs to sit in order to place an order. He explains how if he sits, the bus person will towel corn and bean into his lap. NO. You must sit to order. He sits, and tries to order. Off the menu. Big mistake. His daughter wants a tortilla with some grilled chicken on it. No rice. No beans. No sauce. The waitress insists that they MUST cook the chicken in sauce and also combine it with rice and beans "so it sticks together." Johnny insists and the order is placed. Awkwardness reigns supreme. The kids play word games. The adults smile weakly and tell stories of service ambitions in shambles at other restaurant crash sites, but none of us can shake the prickly feeling of impending service doom, creeping up our necks like a cold NO.

Service is slow, since the order is large and so unusually bespoke. Alas, the plain chicken tortilla arrives with sauce, rice and beans. An exchange between Johnny and the waitress about the order being wrong starts with "we need to put on sauce so it can cook on the grill," and ends with "if you don't want Mexican food, why did you come to a Mexican restaurant?" In between, there are derisive comments on both sides, with the wait staff quite united in the face of their perception of unfair customer demands and comments, perhaps honed by lots of practice, and further distilled by their accurate belief that no matter how awful the service is, most of their customers will drive away on Saturday to homes many hours from here, never to be seen or heard from again. The manager reappears, assures us that we have been rude in pointing out the indisputable incorrect order, slow service and chippy attitude.

What can you say to such a place? Not coming back isn't really a balanced remedy for overt rudeness and strict adherence to rules made up on the spot to frustrate the most basic customer desires and dietary needs. If you order 15 meals, and one needs just a plain grilled piece of chicken, should you really presume to be out of order to the extent that you should go somewhere else? Where would you go? To the grilled chicken restaurant? I didn't find that one in Ship Bottom in AppleMaps.

LexMex may very well be an ok restaurant. The food was 2 out of 5, not 1 out of 5, but the service was a negative 10, and if you respect yourself going in and want to still respect yourself coming out, preserve your dignity, be genius, learn from others' mistakes, and do NOT go in. The 7/11 right next door has microwavable burritos that will provide a far better dining experience, in your car or eaten on a napkin while you walk with your visible self respect to a brighter future.

“More Tex than Mex”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

The food was good but we were looking for something a little closer to Mexican food. Not many choices on the menu.

“Delicious food makes up for the fair atmosphere”

Big filling portions that are uniquely seasoned and reasonably priced. Eager to return after our first visit.

“Yuck!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

We came here for lunch and were extremely disappointed.......there were absolutely no sides with any of the dishes, and the burritos/tacos barely had any meat in them......however, this was a blessing because when we left we all felt sick for the rest of the day. The ambiance was fun, and the wait staff were nice, but would definitely pass on this one......
