Go 72 west. As you leave "The Island" behind , look on the right ,going slowly, just before the bridge begins. See on the right LaSpaiggia Restaurant ,a lowslung yellow building with white columns. You are going in opposite direction of most diners thus you avoid the traffic crawling South on LBI Blvd in search of an often not so good restaurant. Even though this small place may waiting outside you will spare the traffic south and be quaranteed fine quality food.
One can easily miss LaSpaiggia, but DON'T. As you head West on 72 leaving the island go slowly in right lane and look for VALET signs, OPEN flags, etc.
This is the only consistently excellent food I have found on LBI. Attention to detail is apparent here. The fried calamari was delicately breaded, fresh and piping hot.Caesar salad crisp with just the right amount of dressing. I had spaghetti and meatballs;perfectly seasoned with a homemade quality
served over al dente pasta with ribbons of greens interwoven and a slightly sweet red sauce.
My companion enjoyed melt in your mouth,as fresh as can be TENDER NJ bay scallops with shrimp in white sauce over pasta. The seafood was exquisite and the white sauce was subtle yet flavorful, which allowed the delicate scallops to predominate. Dessert mini cannoli were served on an ice cold plate ,creatively presented with chocolate swirls and a fresh mint spring. They were overstuffed with a decadent cannoli filling which was delightfully chilled. Aahhh, sweet perfection for a warm island evening' s end.. Service is attentive and the wait staff serves in a rather formal style .
The atmosphere surrounding your exact your table and meal is lovely, but the LaSpiaggia is small so GO EARLY for specials and to avoid busy times.
