I don't know how anyone could give this place less than at least a 4 star rating . . . the food is excellent and so is the atmosphere -- you're on a dock over the bay! The only negative is that you might have to wait an hour or longer, but my advice is to get off the beach a little earlier and get over to Mike's before the crowd arrives. We left the beach with the lifeguards and after using the public showers and stopping at the local beverage shop we had plenty of time to beat the rush. However, when we arrived there was only 1 table available for 4 and we had to sit facing the setting sun -- that didn't work, so we lingered at the table until a better table opened up . . . the next two families seated at that first table also waited and moved. When the sun is setting, there are numerous tables in the sun and you're better off avoiding them -- these tables are also at the edge of the dock overlooking the bay -- in other words, these are the choice tables! . . . After you sit, you review a large menu and you should keep in mind that the servings are equally as large! My wife and I could have easily shared a meal. My wife ordered the scallops, which came with a half dozen potatoes (!) and I ordered clam chowder, a baked potato and corn on the cob -- oh, and we split the shrimp cocktail (which was enough for a meal). Once you know you're order, you go to the bar to place it yourself and then it's delivered to your table. . . . the place is big and noisy with a lot of people always coming and going, but it's a popular seaside restaurant. Scallops were "very good" but not excellent . . . clam chowder was "very good" but a little on the cool side when served . . . shrimp cocktail: "excellent" as was the cocktail sauce; corn on the cob: "average" (how do you screw that up when it's Jersey corn?); baked potato was huge . . . service was very good (kids, and they're not on duty to develop relationships because they're never going to see you again) . . . and prices were about average for a shore town restaurant. . . . When we left our table the waiting line stretched from the hostess station to the street. Hey, I told you to get there early! . . . But even if you had to wait, Mike's is not a place to pass by.
