Went for dinner the other evening with friends to Cafe Matisse. Larry, the host charming & welcoming as always. Service par excellence. And the food unique small plates, beautiful to the eye and expertly prepared. Decor is very enticing and comfortable. Outdoor patio for dining in appropriate seasons, and magical decorations for the holidays. Great for special occasions or when you just want a great meal. BYO is a great plus as well.

We had their grazing menu which are dishes that not the traditional appetizer or entree portions-they are -n-between the two. One has a choice of either a 3-course meal at $67.00 or a 4-course meal at $88.00 per person. It is a BYOB restaurant. Now to the dishes-they are each creative, delicious and artfully presented. The mixture of different textures and flavorings makes one yearn to taste each item offered on the menu. For example, we had tried thin sliced sushi tuna with lobster and jumbo lump crabmeat with caramelized pineapple topped with curry fried oyster and a dollop of lime curd with chili oil, toasted sesame seeds and baby greens. What a sublime combination! You will not go wrong with any of the choices. The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. Truly a great restaurant! Try to reserve in their outdoor patio when the weather is nice.

I have traveled the world on business. I have been to some of the most famous restaurants from London to Tokyo. There is no better restaurant than Matisse. The facade of Matisse belies what lays behind it's plain door. The ambience of Matisse is sublime. The services is beyond reproach. If that was not enough is incredible. I have never had a meal that could be remotely be considered bad. The chef is so friendly and more they willing to share his thoughts on cooking and combination of tastes. The staff makes you feel like you at home. Often we eat at Matisse after the theater in NY. The staff can converse on literature to what is playing at the theaters from New York. If you care about cuisine, Matisse is a must restaurant to visit!

Daniel -been there. Le Cirque- done that. I would rather go to Cafe Matisse ! This lovely little neighborhood gem is a culinary marvel. The dishes are so complex , yet seamless flavors blend like a symphony. I have been going here for 12 years (when I am lucky enough to get a reservation grrrr.....) and I am NEVER disappointed. If it is nice out -request garden seating and you will feel transported to a vacation place. Do not be intimidated by the fancy descriptions, focus on the main vegetable or protein and trust them . You will not be disappointed. Save your toll fee and go to Rutherford I promise it is worth it ! One last note BYOB, although the store front is a quaint little wine shop that is sure to please as well.
