Special birthday dinner. Cafe Matisse did not disappoint. My wife and I had wanted to try Cafe Matisse for some time now. Everything lived up to our high expectations. The food is otherworldly. Great service in a beautiful romantic setting. What more could you ask for? And in Rutherford NJ no less.

If you want a "taste" an not much more- then by all means enjoy your grazing menu- the food was very good but too little. Please eat before you come here because you will leave hungry. Overpriced- this is not NYC - this is a jersey suburb- wait staff was helpful just very disappointed in serving portion- they do not serve alcohol- waiter said it was a "dry" town- on my way leaving restaurant saw 2 liquor stores. Hhhmmmm

Cafe Matisse has style, class, ambiance, outstanding service and....oh yes, outstanding food. This is not just "going out to dinner", this is a dining experience. Do not be deceived by the location or the outside appearance of Cafe Matisse. Once you step inside you arrive in another time and place. You are greeted warmly and truly welcomed to be there, this in of itself is an oddity these days. The entire staff is inviting, caring and want to give you a dining "experience".
The concept of grazing dishes is by far the way to dine. You have an opportunity to try a few different items. Please do not be fooled by thinking the word grazing means you leave hungry! Au contraire! The food and presentation is as artistically presented as the play on Matisse paintings on the walls! I cannot say enough about this outstanding restaurant. In the warm weather enjoy their beautiful patio dining. You MUST make reservations and on top of all these accolades, this is a BYOB and if you by chance forget your vino, they also own a wine shop contained within the restaurant. This restaurant has maintained this level of excellence for years. I have dined there for professional and personal reasons and have always had the same level experience! Please don't ever change!

Charming atmosphere, impeccable service, and phenomenal food. The whole experience was well worth the money. You have the option of ordering 3 or 4 course meals from their savory and sweet menus. It was difficult to choose because all the options looked so good. The Matisse burger blew my mind, though anything with seafood is a must here as well. Sea bass, scallops, Vanilla honey lobster and shrimp, even the mango chili boneless chicken wings will tantalize your taste buds. Bring your own booze or you can purchase some at the in house liquor store. This restaurant is a must eat. Prices start at around 60$ for the 3 course and range to 88 for the 4 course with 8 dollar supplements on a couple of the dishes. You will love it! Enjoy

Cafe Matisse is absolutely worth the trip, worth the price. You won't regret it the moment you are seated in the lovely dining area and especially won't regret it when you receive your food. I selected the beet salad and the sea bass which were both so intricately layered with flavors that they defy description. Friends got the short ribs and crab cakes which were delectable. The food is truly the masterpiece at this restaurant. Remember to bring your own wine to pair with your meal. Granted I found the desserts somewhat lacking (a confection of apples and biscuit) but tasted the Banana Cream pie which was lovely. Service was beyond exceptional.

It's an experience so plan it for a special night!
