Description: Fromagerie is a sophisticated, fine-dining restaurant that features the highest-quality seasonal ingredients delivered with expert service. The frequently-changing menu is French influenced, but the creative takes on regional American cuisine are fresh and festive. A fine wine list and craft cocktails complement simply-prepared small plates and hearty, comforting dishes.

Ambitious food that almost always lives up to the recipes ... almost. Service surprisingly awkward considering the price and reputation. Overall, some of the finest cuisine in New Jersey, yet not truly excellent.

Been to Fromagerie many times and always reluctantly. I'f you have children live in Monmouth county and hope for fine dining you keep hoping Fromagerie will be better than you last remembered it.
Unfortunatly its NOT.

So the pop overs have been replaced by a bread basket so I thought we were off to a better start. Wrong

Servers were sloppy. Sloppily attired ( rolled up sleaves, hair out of place, with English hard to understand which meant every dish went unexplained)

Water dribbles onto the table after glasses are filled. 40 minutes between ordering and first course . 40 minutes to main course. We had to wait another 25 minutes before all guests received food and and sides were put on table. ( 2 servers should bring food out for a table of 8)
So some people had eaten half their food without the sides. Just a mess!

55 dollar ribeyes that seemed wood fired but lacked any significant marbeling and flavor.

Desert is NYC kitschy.

Decor is great and the locals in rumson love it. I always prefer Nicholas but their no kids LAW prohibits us from dining there for family events.

Too expensive and the food and service make the whole experience feel like you should stay home for a month.

I recently revisited the Fromagerie Restaurant in Rumson which brought many great memories of when I worked for International Flavors and Fragrances in Hazlet / Union Beach. Numerous business meetings, celebrations and enjoyable holiday celebrations were spent there by business associates, family and myself. It has changed, but still remains a very warm and elegant place to have a great meal in a wonderful atmosphere. Glad the new owners have been able to maintain it's presence.

Food and service were excellent. Wait staff knowledgeable (they could comment on the dishes as they had tried them). Wine list had some real gems and wine pricing was very fair - enjoyed a big cab for $10 less than I paid at the winery. Couple of little points that restaurant could address:
1) Knives - Most steak houses have bad knives, these were worse. Heavy and awkward to hold. Interestingly the chef has his name on them. The wait staff brought us better knives on request. A good steak knive should have a thin sharp blade - not a cross between a bread knife and a cleaver.
2) Steak sauce - I don't get how a really nice restaurant serves steak sauce in a bottle. Again has chef's name on it, but serve it in a nice dish and let people know its available for sale in the front.
3) bubble gum - bubble gum flavors were used in both candy floss and cream for cheesecake lollipops. Maybe the flavor changes each week, but no one in my party liked teh flavor and looking around, no one seemed to have more than one bite.
4) Salts - steak house that specializes in custom aged steaks should have better salts (pink salt for example) on the table. We asked and they brought some out - so again good wait staff dealing with a customer issue.
