The space is small yet cozy, intimate and warm. It has a nice Italian charm to it including the espresso bar and a few stools, just like in Italy. There are a lot of outdoor seats which we would have opted for, had it not been raining. The waitstaff is very professional, friendly, and attentive, but not overbearing. We brought our 9 month old daughter with us because we did not have a sitter, and they were very accommodating to all of our needs. Luckily, they welcome families, but at the same time it is also a pretty trendy place which is ideal for us since we like trendy, upscale restaurants but we can never bring our daughter to most that we go to. We usually opt for more family friendly restaurants these days, so this was a nice treat!

Now for the delicious food.... For an appetizer, the bacon wrapped figs stuffed with gorgonzola are a must try. I am not a big fan of gorgonzola cheese, but these were delicious. They were the perfect combination of salty and sweet which was very pleasing to the palate. We also had the calamari balsamico which is always delicious. For the main course I had the fresh sea scallops which were wonderful and my husband had the delicious homemade gnocchi in a brown butter with sage leaves. The gnocchi was cooked to perfection and had the perfect amount of flavor. He is still raving about how good it was. The portions were very generous and we both took our leftovers home, which is usually unlikely since my husband usually eats his entire dinner and the rest of mine. We did not have dessert because we were so full, but they did have some delicious choices that we will be sure to try the next time we go. We will definitely be back to Due.

Due is a fantastic new addition to the Ridgewood dining scene, sure to give the other Italian restaurants in the area a run for their money. The space is small but intimate and warm, the service is professional but not too invasive, but it is the food that sets this little gem apart. The menu is a great mix of Northern Italian classics with a twist, a pretty lengthy and complex menu for a small restaurant.

We had the homemade mozzarella appetizer, which is not to be missed, along with a unique take on fried calamari ("caldo y dolce", or hot and sweet), which arrived steaming hot with a delicious breading, charred hot peppers and sweet grapes. SO good! The restaurant specializes in wood-grilled meats and fishes ("alla griglia") so I chose the salmon, which came out glistening and cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of smoky undertones, and was served with absolutely delicious roasted beets and a healthy portion of risotto that shows this Chef knows his way around an Italian kitchen. My friend had the homemade gnocchi with a brown butter sauce and crispy sage leaves that she raved about and I barely got a bite of. No complaints about the food, we left full, happy and impressed.

Friday was the first night it was open to the public and though we were expecting some first-night issues, we didn't experience any. If you are lucky, the friendly Chef will come out to check on you with a huge smile and chat with you about the menu. The restaurant is BYO, which is no surprise here but kept the cost of our dinner down. I will definitely be coming back.
