Let's face it, northern NJ lacks good Sushi, at least as far as I can tell. Well Kumo doesn't change that. It's very good for NJ, but pales in comparison to what you can find just 20 minutes away in Manhattan. With that said, Kumo is still a great contribution to Ridgewood, which is oversaturated with very mediocre Sushi establishments. We end up dining here at least twice a month because it's only a five minute ride from our home. There's never a wait for a table and the prices are very competitive.
The sushi itself is pretty good, especially the standard rolls. (Tuna, Yellowtail, Salmon, and the spicy variants of each). The special rolls are great too, though a bit more expensive. Miso soup is only a few bucks, and well worth it. Recently we tried their Katsu don dish, which was great too.
Like 98% of Ridgewood establishments, it's a BYOB so don't forget your bottle of wine. Lastly, if you pay cash, they often provide a 20% discount, so hit the ATM first. Check your bill, I've found errors in about 50% of our visits.
All in all, a solid restaurant. Would probably only earn 3-stars in Manhattan, but compared to our other options in NJ, this earns four stars from us.
