We went to Char last week and were incredibly pleased with it. I go to NY steakhouses on business frequently and Char matches some and outpaces others by a long way. First, the quality of the food was outstanding -- my steak was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious; I paired it with a lobster tail that couldn't have been more succulent. Second, the wait staff we fabulous -- we never wanted for anything we needed and they replenished the water and bread without us asking. Finally, the atmosphere is spectacular -- just a beautiful space. In sum, a great meal, wonderful staff and enjoyable atmosphere -- go and enjoy.

We ate here early but worth it! Kristen our server was AMAZING and super nice! Food was great the only thing was the drinks are $$$$$. Not sure who gets to eat upstairs but our space to the left of the door was small. If you eat early you are fine but the later you eat dinner the crowded you feel. Bar is small as well!

We made our second visit recently. The food was good (steaks were cooked properly, unlike our first visit) but the food was slow to come out due to a party upstairs. Bad news if the kitchen can't keep up with a party and regular seating. Also had a strange experience with the bartender consistently pouring the wrong beer. I still don't know what caused that. Wrong keg on wrong tap? Either way it was dissapointing.

The ribs remain top notch and most of the other food was good. Service was attentive. A sold three star rating will go up when the kitchen improves. Until then, while tasty, Char is expensive when you consider the inconsistencies.

Very good food and service but the 7 guys in the suits walking around are as cold as the ice in the seafood tower!! Spent $300 for 2 people here 3 nights ago and all they do is walk around. Never once asked how is/was everything and they don't even pretend to care!! Just another Ashes but overpriced. Again very good but have the managers ask and smile !!!

We went for dinner a few weeks ago with friends and it was a generally enjoyable experience. Like any steak house in the area, don't expect any bargains here on anything. Even the house wine is expensive - and if you order by the glass and specify a brand - you had better know the price of what you are ordering or you may be surprised by your bill. The appetizers were excellent - we split the crab and escargot. Then for dinner I had a strip steak and the others had filet mignon. My steak was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned. Everyone else enjoyed their filets also. We ordered a bunch of sides (as it is a steak house, you get meat on a plate) and they were all very nice. The mushrooms were good, but a bit heavy handed on the thyme. The only down part of the meal is when they tried to get us to pay another bar bill - they stated that we did not pay the bill when we were seated. Fortunately my friend had paid by credit card and had a receipt - it kind of ended the meal on a bit of a sour note trying to get us to pay for another bar bill. All tolled, the bill, with all the food and wine came to about $120 a person.
