Went there today with some other Danish friends.. And here is actually a Danish café that makes real Danish food. We tried most of the food on the menu and was pleasantly surprised.
The open sandwiches were amazing!

I have been to this restaurant many times since they opened and they are consistently delicious. Danish are flaky and light (not at all like the heavy, doughy flavorless American breakfast danish that come to mind); Italian wedding soup is amazing with yummy little meatballs; the open-faced sandwiches are all so good (especially roast beef sandwich and the sliced egg and shrimp sandwich) The lox are the best I've had in Red Bank. Salmon is so fresh with a nice texture and smoky flavored. Chai, skinny latte and teas are all very good. Definitely worth visiting and trying all the different menu items. Moderately priced and welcoming atmosphere. A great place to spend time for a leisurely breakfast or lunch. Parking is no problem. Really charming and very nice owners and staff. Not to be missed.

The open-faced sandwiches are authentic Scandinavian fair and have high-quality ingredients and excellent flavors. The roast beef, for example, comes with a curry mayonnaise and pickles. The brown bread, which often puzzles Americans, makes a perfect foil to the savory ingredients.

The salmon, as one would expect with Danes, is smoky and succulent. And, of course, the herring is great also.

The highlight is probably the baked goods, which are baked by a real Danish girl. Did anyone say Danish? Yes, the eponymous pastry is here, and it is flaky and surprisingly light. The other cakes and pastries are consistently excellent; the banana-flavored cake with chocolate on the bottom, the sponge pinwheel filled with raspberry, the cookies, etc. You can't go wrong here.

The portions are moderate and the prices low. The idea is that, in the Danish fashion, you should be able to eat and afford an open-faced sandwich and a Danish for brunch.

The space, in the old Eisner factory, is industrial chic and beautiful.

The problem is that the place doesn't get nearly the business that it should. The philistines prefer bad food and plenty of it. The Danish immigrants who run the café -- wonderful people -- are wondering if they will be able to stay open. Why aren't you there right now? Are you a philistine?
