“Potential for much more!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

For many years, I have attended an annual event in Princeton and always stay at the Nassau Inn. Some public areas and rooms have been renovated and they have been done tastefully. Others are worn and tired. My room was on the fifth floor and the walkway from one side of the building to the other was sweltering. Toiletries were not replenished, and it would have been nice to have a selection of different pillows. On the other hand, the staff is very pleasant and helpful. And, it's a treat to have a cookie and cup of tea at the end of a busy day. I wish the management would consider emulating the Kimpton Hotel concept - older spaces but elegantly treated.

Dear MaryPat105,
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We greatly appreciate your loyalty to the Nassau Inn and hope to serve you for years to come! Our staff is truly grateful for your kind words about your interactions with them and we are glad you were able to enjoy some of our afternoon complimentary coffee/tea and cookies. The toiletries in your room should certainly have been replenished and we will look into exactly why they were not. We do offer a variety of pillows and prior to your return visit please call me to arrange a more preferable location within the Inn and pillows suited more to your liking. I can be reached at (609) 921-7500.

We were in room 415, a king size bed, and the entire room had been updated and remodeled. It was comfortable and clean.
I agree that with these prices, free internet should be available. Discounted parking should also be available.
We did not eat at the hotel or use any of its services.

Room Tip: Request the remodeled section. We were at the end of the hallway and it was quiet.

Dear Bornfreenowexpensive,
We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent visit to the Nassau Inn. We are delighted that you were satisfied with our rejuvenated rooms and found them to be comfortable and in good clean standing. We do have discounted rate parking for our guests as well as an arranged parking pass that allows free flowing traffic in and out of the two local garages with a flat rate charge that goes directly onto your room folio. Additionally, on our website we do offer a Business Traveler Special which may be perfect for your next visit to the Inn. Included in this package is free internet, breakfast and a greater discount in the local parking garage. If your plans in the future include another visit to the Princeton area we hope that you will once again choose the Nassau Inn as your preferred hotel and by all means feel free to call me to arrange for this inclusive rate. I can be reached at (609) 921-7500.

The hotel was comfortable enough - but nothing spectacular. The location was the best part of the hotel. My biggest problem with our stay was that we were guests of the hotel (we had won, at an auction, a two night stay at the hotel.) When we checked in, I gave a credit card for incidentals - which is standard and understandable. What I didn't expect was a nearly $850 authorization, for what ended up being a $42 charge (parking). I thought this was excessive and abusive. When I called the hotel (after being disconnected twice) I was transferred to accounting. The young lady was helpful but could neither explain why the authorization was so excessive or how they could remedy the situation. The advice she gave me was to call my bank. Just an unsatisfactory resolution to what was a mediocre stay.

Dear JERomano,
Thank you for sharing your feedback and expressing your pleasure with our central location. We can understand your frustration with an excessive credit authorization taken upon your check in at the hotel and with a gift voucher we do have automatic parameters built within our software to keep this from occurring. The only thing we can think of after testing our system to ensure its accuracy is that the voucher may not have been presented to our front desk agent at the time of check in and therefore nothing would have triggered a lower authorization. I very much would like to speak with you at your convenience, to gain a better understanding of this situation. Please call me at (609) 921-7500.

My family and I spent a night at the Nassau Inn recently as we were on a college tour. the Inn is located close to Princeton U which was good. The staff at check in were efficient and courteous. However as we went up to our room we were a bit surprised at the somewhat tired decor and state of repair. the hallways were poorly decorated. the room was even worse. large furniture pieces of dark wood, a small window which made the room dingy. we requested a room change given this but were not accommodated. its a decent enough place but ok if youre being asked to pay usd 150 per night, not what they actually charge you, which is way over the top for what you get

Room Tip: find another hotel if you can pay this much

Dear Khawaja H,
Thank you for choosing to stay at the Nassau Inn and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. The Front Desk staff is grateful that you mentioned them in your review. We are sorry that you did not find our décor to your liking, and although the large darker wood pieces throughout the hallways & rooms may appear to be older most of them are brand new as is the carpeting throughout. We are an historic hotel and aim to honor and preserve the dignity of the Inn’s glorious past. We have a variation of guest room styles and types to choose from and if you ever visit the Princeton area again we hope that you will give us the opportunity to give you a tour of our rooms and perhaps we can find something to accommodate your tastes. I would be pleased to arrange such an opportunity with you; I can be reached at (609) 921-7500.

I recently spent a very comfortable week at the Nassau Inn. The room was a queen parlor (bedroom + small sitting room) on the 4th floor. It felt homey and well finished, rather like a nice apartment. The hefty price tag probably has to do with the location: what you pay can get you much more luxurious stays in other places. In a similar-sized town in Europe, for example, you might get the same for 60-70% of the price.

Going by other reviews, this may have been a renovated room. I found the bed to be very comfortable. Good wifi. Mini-fridge and coffee maker. No noise at night, heating/cooling worked quietly and efficiently. Extra points for the green trees right outside both windows. This particular room is good if you think you might have friends stop by, though I'm not sure how it would work for professional meetings. The sitting room is small with couch and desk, but the bedroom can be closed off and the sitting room had a separate guest toilet. Flatscreen TVs in both rooms.

The location is fantastic as you are in the heart of town, in Palmer Square. Lots of dining options nearby and even some shopping. Staff are helpful but not intrusive. The lobby can be very busy when there are events or big groups checking in, but it never seemed too noisy.

Dear NewYorkTravelbug25,
We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your Nassau Inn experience. We are thrilled to read of your overall satisfaction with our staff and our rejuvenated rooms. You made mention of the possibility of holding a business gathering in the room and if in the future this is something you care to do, we also offer a King Conference Suite that is very similar to your Queen Parlor with regard to structure of the room, it is merely a more spacious area and rather than a parlor seating area the King Conference offers a conference table that will comfortably seat 6-8 people. It too offers a separating door between the bedroom and conference area and also has two bathrooms. If you would like to see it in the future as an option for you, our staff would be happy to give you a tour of it or you can visit NassauInn.com where we have a photo of the room under our “accommodations” and then click the “specialty suites” tab, it will be in that drop down labeled as “King Conference Suite”. We hope that you return again soon and please feel free to reach out to me if you would ever like to arrange for a tour of other rooms we offer! I can be reached at (609) 921-7500.

We attended a funeral in Princeton and found the location excellent since we could walk to the funeral home, the chapel, the cemetery and the lunch venue after the service. The lobby and guest rooms are average at best and certainly nor worth the price. The staff at check-in were polite and helpful but later, not so much. Aside from the convenient location the hotel was a disappointment. We expected much more at that high price.

Dear Zsiga,
We are sorry for your loss and that you came to Princeton under such circumstances. We appreciate that you took the time to share your opinion about our Inn. We are happy to read that the location of the Nassau Inn was ideal for your purposes and that everything was conveniently within walking distance for you. We are of course very displeased to hear of your under whelmed impression of your guest room and that it did not meet the expectation of the price paid. We are always improving and striving for 100% guest satisfaction. While our location is truly wonderful we strive to impress more a warm and comfortable stay. If there are any specific suggestions you could offer I would be happy to hear them. I can be reached at (609) 921-7500. We would hope that if your future planes include another visit to the Princeton area that you will once again choose the Nassau Inn.

We've stayed at this hotel many times. The location is great for a visit to Princeton U. The service is spotty. Nick is a great bellman, but some of the front desk people are less than wonderful. The rooms need a little freshening up- better lighting, new, less noisy air conditioning units, and a more healthy room service menu. We'd stay again, but would love to see that ownership is investing in modernizing the guest's stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevators

Dear nycfan85,
We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your valuable feedback. Our bellman Nick, truly appreciated that you mentioned him by name in such a positive way. We have recently rejuvenated our Inn and that included all new mattresses, bedding, carpeting, larger bathrooms, new windows, furniture and we are currently in the process of going through the few rooms that haven’t yet gotten new air conditioning units and replacing them with all new units. We are sorry that you were in a room that had yet to receive a new air conditioner. Prior to your next visit please do call me and we can make arrangements for you to be in a room sure to have a new one. Our room service menu goes through many changes and we are always catering to suggestions from our guests so by all means let me also know your thoughts when you call to arrange your next visit! I can be reached at (609) 921-7500. Yours in Hospitality,
