“Second time staying here and I highly recommend.”
Reviewed July 24, 2010

This is our second time staying here. We booked through the Sesame Place website and the package they offer is a very good deal. Buy 2 nights and the third is free, tickets to park are upgraded to season passes and breakfast is free each morning at hotel restaurant. You get a very good value for your money. The hotel was very clean, from the outside landscaping to the interior of the lobby and the rooms. Pool was never crowded and very well maintained. Restaurant was very clean and the food was quite good. Staff was extremely friendly, Jean Claude in the restaurant was very nice and helpful and our kids really liked him. He even had Elmo come over to our table for the little ones. If you want a nice quiet, clean and friendly hotel to stay at when visiting Sesame Place then this is the hotel to choose.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel in 2 months and I gave it the benifit of the doubt last time, however, it is still failing on the same issues as our flight crew mentioned previously. The main single problem is the staffing issue and total lack of management. Service is the most important issue when it comes to a single night stop in a business hotel and due to its skeleton staffing it just can not meet the guest requirements in every single depatment. We waited over an hour at 6pm to check in when they knew a week in advance that a party of 29 were staying. The same to book out the next morning, and as fo the poor over worked bar tender. It is so unfortunate as the rooms are fantastic once you get in them. As for the food, I had to send my meal back twice for the same problem and they still insisted the meal be put on the bill despite my complaints after the 3rd attempt to get a decently cooked meal. As you will see from my previous reviews, I have always been fair in comment, however, i will ensure that our company do not use this hotel in the futre and if a company like Hyatt can turn down a group booking of upto 30 guests every month, then it says a lot of our current financial climate.

After checking out of a different hotel in the South Princeton area were moved to the Hyatt with our 9 and 11 year old boys and were glad we did. The Hyatt is conveniently located to everything in the Princeton area including the university and to the Princeton Junction train station.

Nothing fancy or glamorous. A generally clean and spacious hotel at an affordable rate. We were glad to move there from a new hotel that was not as conveniently located and was more than 3x's the rate we paid at the Hyatt.

My biggest complaint was the extra charge for internet access.

Dear Zriles616,

Just a quick response to say thank you for your review, I happy to hear that, like most guests that have not experienced our property, you were pleasantly surprised with our location, value and convenience. Being 1 mile from the University and the New Jersey Transit station are wonderful benefits of our hotel.

Thank you for your business and we look forward to welcoming you back when your travels bring you to the Princeton area.

Mangement rebooked one of the three rooms we rented through an online service then kept the the money we paid for the room. They got paid twice. At first, the manager lied that they had not been paid but insisted that it was their "policy." When asked if they would let future guests know about their policy they replied that: "We are under no obligation" to inform them. Buyer beware!

This was part of a very well priced package through Sesame Place. The 3 night hotel/park package saved us about $500 so no complaints there.
Pro: Breakfast buffet was included through package
Con: Thankfully; because the buffet breakfast for 2 adults and 2 small children was priced at $70...but I wrote it was included in package on bill/receipt & it was credited
Pro: Pool was excellent...clean...never crowded...open for extensive hours
Pro: Staff was extremely friendly and helpful
Pro: Room was very clean
Pro/Con: 25 minutes from Sesame Place so you decide
Pro: Promotion for free wi-fi during our stay
Con: Absolutely no kids channels available for free...this was a bit of a problem for our kids...but we worked through it.

Overall, this hotel is clearly geared toward the business crowd which is fine. We were still treated very well and felt welcomed even though we were obviously on a family trip. We enjoyed ourselves and found most aspects of our stay to be top notch. Very expensive restaurant and no kids channels were the major bummer...and if that's all I complaining about then I think the hotel should be proud of its facilities and service.

Dear Maximus50,

Thank you for your comments, it continues to be a pleasure to be able to respond about the service of our associates, it is our number one goal to make our guests feel welcome. Congratulations on the Sesame Place package, and thank you for your Pro/Con review of our property.

Just to highlight the television listings, unfortunately we at the hotel are not in control of the programming provided to us, however comments like yours gives us feedback that we pass on to our cable provider in hopes of having them add channels to better serve all of our guests.

Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Let me start off this review by saying that it makes me a little sad to write a mostly negative review, as the staff at this Hyatt were very courteous and helpful (minus one front desk staff member) and we got a great price through Hotwire. However, other than the great staff and the lobby of this hotel which was very pretty, the hotel is not so great. I booked through Hotwire, which means I saved a fortune off the regular rate and based on that price alone, I would rate the hotel much higher. But, based on the price that I know others pay booking through the hotel, I can't give this hotel a good rating. Hotwire rates this property 4 stars, and it is by no means a 4 star property.

The hotel is dated, and in bad need of a renovation. The rooms look tired and the bathroom is the worst looking part. I will say that the room was very clean, and I also appreciated the toothpaste in the bathroom (an atypical amenity), on the positive side. Speaking of the bathroom, while showering on 2 occasions I heard a noise and then the water got extremely cold. After fumbling to make it warm again (by turning the nob all the way to the hot side), several minutes passed and another noise was heard and the water then got extremely hot! I don't know if our neighbors turned on their shower, or flushed a toilet, but this was horrible. The bed sheets were stiff and uncomfortable, not the linens I would expect at a 4-star property. The room service was overpriced and mediocre (with the exception of the cheesecake which was wonderful), and to add insult to injury the person who delivered our first room service order failed to mention the service charge was already included and my husband ended up leaving a 40% tip-- outrageous! When we mentioned this to a front desk member upon check out, she kind of laughed like "Oops, oh well!" as opposed to perhaps trying to rectify the error. Now, we understand what room service typically costs at high end hotels, and would gladly pay the price if the food quality was there, but it simply wasn't. Additionally, they still charge for high speed internet! Most hotels offer this amenity free now, they need to catch up with the times.

In summary, were we glad we paid $68/night through hotwire? Yes, and if this was the standard rate we would gladly recommend this hotel. But if you are planning on booking through the hotel and paying maybe upwards of $200-$300/ night expecting a great 4-star Hyatt room, look for a better room elsewhere.

Dear AFGal,

Thank you for your review, your comments are valuable as we continue to look to improve our property. As with most of our reviews it was a pleasure to hear that our staff was courteous and helpful, service is what can not be bought through renovations or physical improvements. I am sorry that the front desk or room service for that matter were not able to avoid the mistake with the gratuity. Our staff is fully empowered to correct billing errors and I am at a loss as to why the agent did not correct the issues on the spot.

In our guest rooms the showers operate independently from a central heating core meaning the temperature will not be changed by a neighbors use of the shower or flushing of a commode, that said I apologize for the fluctuations in the water temperature.

AFGal I do hope you would see the issues as isolated and we look forward to having you back as our guest again in the near future.

Personal Regards,

Jason Moore - Hotel Manager
