“wonderfull experience”

Karen and I were in town for dinner and a play at McCarter Theater. Everyone should see the terrific Barber of Seville and or Marriage of Figaro there during April 2014. Consistently fine productions.

“Nice venue, some great productions, be selective”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

This place has been renovated a few years ago and is physically attractive. Parking is sometimes an issue. All things considered, it is one of the best regional theaters in the country with an interesting mix of new, old, and avant garde productions. Personally I have a clear preference for some of the more traditional plays and shows. We have had season tickets in the past, which are a good value if you attend all the plays, but you are stuck with the selection, which has included some real duds as well as great choices. Now we purchase individual tickets. And at its best, its really good and cost effective relative to an evening in New york.

“Great Show - Average Theatre - Deteriorating Location”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

First the good... the Peking Acrobats show was fantastic. Very entertaining for the entire family and the theatre is small enough where all seats are good ones. The quality and range of events are improving (as others mention as well), pricing is reasonable and we (wife and I) had an overall enjoyable evening out. The bad... The area around the theatre leaves a lot to be desired. Currently, there's a lot of construction underway (for the train station and traffic routing) but this will eventually change. However, parking is TERRIBLE and when you eventually find a parking space, it likely will be on a dark street because street lighting does not exist around the theater in the residential areas - where you end up having to park! And, the sidewalks are in poor condition so be careful walking at night after you park your car. These conditions, combined with the Princeton traffic and the many potholes in the town, may suggest that the show you're going to see better outweigh the challenges of getting to and from it.

This was our first visit to the McCarter Theatre to see A Christmas Carol. I have seen this play several times but this is by far the best production I have ever seen. I felt like I was at a Broadway show in NYC. It actually brought me to tears. I am looking forward to attending more plays at this beautiful theatre so close to home!

“Next best thing to broadway”
Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

I went to McCarter around the Christmas season to see the production of A Christmas Carol. I must say that I was impressed by the production. The play was directly from the original story. The cast was also very good. It was clear from the start that this was not some cheap, low quality production, but rather a high quality, well thought out production. Five stars. One extra tip: at the concession stand you can preorder food for intermission. This may come in handy if you have younger children.
