“A solid and generously presented Hampton”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2012

Price was a little over the top, but the hotel was well presented. As with all Hamptons, it's a little worn around the edges. Carpet was stained unnecessarily, the bed was a little too soft. However, there was a lovely pool, which was situated in a private courtyard in the back of the hotel. And the amenities were great, with a refrigerator and microwave in the room. I do wish, as a single female staying there that the horseshoe shape of the hotel were different, as I felt very isolated from the front desk, but I'm sure that if I'd asked, they would've moved my room. I really appreciate the 24 hr. availability of coffee and tea in their lounge, along with dining implements. The location is oddly remote from area eateries and malls. Further south, there is a Whole Foods, where I purchased a yummy dinner.

The only other major complaint was that the room faced south and lacked adequate black out curtains, very strange, if you ask me. Even if you like the sun blazing into your room, at night you get the glare of the lights around the pool. Not even the pleasant shimmering of nighttime blue pool on your ceiling, just the 24 hour lights blazing up into your window. Not fun.

Overall, a great experience.

Hello From Hampton Inn Princeton!

Thank you for selecting Hampton Inn Princeton during your recent visit to Princeton. We are pleased to offer very competitive rates as it relates to all the complimentary services we offer. Your rate included a full breakfast, complimentary internet, complimentary baked cookies, complimentary van transportation, 24/7 coffee, local calls, complimentary dinner with beer, wine and soda. I am happy to share that we have just replaced our guest room carpeting and I apologize this did not happen prior to your recent visit. I also double checked to see that your room did in fact have the black-out drapes and I apologize that these were tucked away behind the stationary drapes. I hope we see you again as we strive to make certain every guest has a positive experience. Thanks again for your feedback and I hope you have a great summer!

Hampton Inn in Princeton, NJ offers rooms at a price higher than typical Hampton Inns. For this, the guest can expect superior performance. Unfortunately this doesn't get delivered. Issues were both small and large. Small: No tea in the coffee service in the room; very limited cosmetics in the room; poor lighting. Large: The facility is on the west side of Rt. 1 and very hard to access from the south. Web site does not make clear how to access the hotel from Rt. 1. The facility appear to be understaffed. Though staff are friendly, there are few of them present. Complimentary breakfast is meager compared to other facilities. All this would seem unimportant in an $89 room. But in a $120 room, a guest can expect more.

Greetings From Princeton!

Thank you for staying with us and thank you for your comments. I sincerely apologize for your experience as this is not typically our style of service as you can see from our other valued customer reviews. We are also making several positive changes for our 400 square foot guest room experience. This week we are upgrading our televisions to have over 120 channels with HD, new faster free HSIA, upgraded amenities and new lighting. We do not usually provide tea in the rooms because it is against our brand standards but we do offer complimentary 24/7 coffee & tea in our lobby. Unfortunately I cannot agree with you more on the location regarding the Route 1 U-turn but that is totally out of our hands. Hilton is going through a major refresh on all the brand sites and this may need to be further tuned. We also have a very positive team and I am very proud of all their hard efforts. I again apologize for your particular experience. We hope to have a second chance to make a better first impression.

This is a good hotel for the price. Bed was very comfortable and room a good size. They couldn't cope with the numbers for breakfast which was very chaotic - but maybe it is quieter during the week. We had a couple of issues with cleanliness but they sent housekeeping up immediately. Also slightly irritating that we were told about the pool when we booked but upon arrival told it hadn't opened for the season.... The front desk staff were very polite and helpful. In short a good place for a brief stay when all you want is somewhere ok to sleep.

Spring Greetings!

Thank you for your recent response regarding your visit. We are happy you selected Hampton Inn Princeton for your visit and I apologize that you became a part of the large amount of sports team travelers throughout Princeton that weekend. Typically, we have a very smooth and plentiful breakfast buffet but this particular weekend was a little busy with track teams and I sincerely apologize for your experience. We do feature a beautiful spacious outdoor pool that we typically open from Memorial Day until Labor Day similar to most of the outdoor pools throughout the Northeast. I hope we have the opportunity to see you again with the hopes of delivering you a quite stay and the refreshing pool. Thank you again for allowing us to serve you. Have a great summer.

double queen room for my sister and I, next to elevator on 3rd floor, but was very quiet. Beds are on wall away from elevator, These must be handicapped rooms--large amount of empty space in middle of room. Shower very nice, faced back side of hotel so no US 1 noise. Easy access to Princeton, Trader Joe's 2.81 miles south on US 1 (for those of us who are lacking TJs where we live...). Very clean and plasant. Eggs were nicely prepared, and decent sausage patties. Nice duvets, for which they place clean covers for each guest. Had a pool (empty in April) and exercise room. Would stay again. Reasonably priced.

I have no idea if this hotel is the best in Princeton, but I cannot deny or refute the TripAdvisor rating tabulations. Hampton Inn was perfectly acceptable. The reception was fine, a "satisfaction guarantee" was stressed, the rooms were adequate and quiet (not huge), and the beds were fine (not luxurious). For a night, this hotel was just what the doctor ordered -- no unpleasant surprises (such as bed bugs), no drunks, no seedy area, no rude staff, no unpleasant noises, not far from the town, etc.

Continental breakfast was fine. I was surprised when the staff told me that yogurt wasn't available on weekends (as if only mid-week execs deserved them). Since satisfaction was guaranteed, I simply made a request of the front desk agent, and she quickly and graciously fetched me three Greek yogurts for my family which, in turn, made everyone else jealous!

Check-in and check-out were a breeze, and the price was very fair. (If you're visiting Princeton, you're entitled to an even lower rate.)

I would return.

We arrived late in the evening after a drive down from Boston. The hotel staff were very cheerful and helpful. The internet access code for in-room wi-fi was already written down on our key envelope, so we were ready to go. Our hotel room was clean, roomy and nicely furnished. The requested extra towels were already in place. The public computer/printer was fast and stocked with supplies.

Breakfast was good, but not stellar. Check-out was a simple process of turning in our keys. We departed relatively early, and the staff kindly offered us pre-packed "Breakfast-to-go" bags that contained fruit, cereal bar and water.

Hotel is easy to find and has quick access by car to Princeton University. The pricing is excellent compared to "boutique" type accomodations available closer to the university.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces onto the interior courtyard. Trucks bumping along US 1 are audible from o...

Stayed here on college tour with my husband and son. Requested a quiet room and got a great room (328). Two comfortable king sized beds. Lots of room to move around. The bathroom was small for a room this size, but it wasn't horribly small - just odd in scale. Slept peacefully all night - which was good considering how close you are to Route 1. The staff was friendly - front desk staff even made cookies for us on the weekend! Good value and great sleep for the price. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 328 had two kings - very quiet!

Princeton Greetings! Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding you accommodations while you visited Princeton with your husband and son. We are so happy you slept peacefully since we are in the "sleeping" business. We personally wish your son all the best in his search for collage and if it is Princeton, we hope to be your first choice when returning to the area. Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to care about us. Have a great summer and we hope to have you back soon.
