Had dinner with three colleagues here Tuesday evening. Great atmosphere and service. Good was very tasty. Would recommend for a business lunch or dinner. Nice location off Route 1 south.

Tre Piani has 3 floors and 9 lives. When it first opened it was aiming for California Novelle, big bowls.. with small dollops of fresh pasta, and reductions used as "sauce".. a fusion of fresh, french and italian. It really didn't work. Then the manager decided to turn to his Italian roots and hire a new chef, who knew classic Tuscan cooking.. this phase was amazing! The food was robust, delicate and revealed a Chef with real talent. Sadly then came the "lets make a singles bar
phase", noisy 2-pizza menus, and dougy, cheesy, surgary mess.
This slide into the Olive Garden phase, big plates of bad pasta and lots of bread.
We stopped going thereafter for 4 years. We randomly checked in one Wednesday evening and was both shocked and impressed.
First, the GREAT bartender from the Lahaire's bar was there! Chris,
who was at Lahaires for 25 years and given a month after all this time
to move on. He has popped up a number of other Restaurants (see my reviews for where Chris has appeared), but settled into Metro North and Tre Piani. Say hi to him! Now the food. I had a hanger
steak, with an argula salad, light vinaigrette--simply amazing! Veal Osso buco--perfect. Pasta's, fresh and interesting, light touch on the sauces. One of the better restaurants in the area for Italian, is Metro North--it has other problems tho-- but Tre Piani in our opinion has become competitive. Looking forward to our next visit. Its back!

Fabulous fried calamari. Had a baby kale salad, which was a special, that had a creamy dressing that was delicious. We both loved our entrees, too.
Restaurant is beautifully decorated and comfortable.

The overall experience at this restaurnat has fallen since my last visit 5+ years ago.
Service was ok but unpolished. Our waitress came back to our table during the meal with a strong sense of cigarette smoke about her - not appetizing. Food was... mediocre. Fried calamari appetizer was the highlight but came with only a tartar sauce. A (medicore) marinara was delivered upon request. The caesar salad was nice. The main course of bourbon duck was very over salted, a bit tough and a sharp knife was not offered. The special of swordfish was - mediocre. It came with a risotto that was bland as was the sauce for the fish dish - eveything was a wonderful texture but without anything very savory.
The manager did inquire about our meal and offered us a complimentary dessert upon hearing about the over salted duck - an indication that they are trying. The cannoli cheese cake was - mediocre!

Went for a friends birthday started with the sangria which was terrible - way too sweet but then switched to regular drinks which were fine. Ordered the tortellini over the lasagna at the waiters recomendation which was ok nothing special. Finished by sharing a desert. We also ordered the calamari appetizer which is served with a mayo based sauce I suggest asking them to add marinara and fried mozarella which was very good but order enough because only two come on the plate. Dinner for four people with the above plus two drinks each came to 70 a person.
