“Decent Food, Abhorrent Service”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

A friend and I visited The Peacock Inn for brunch, and were surprised at the level of service that we received. Long standing residents of the Princeton area, we have become accustomed to a certain level of customer service, and found that offered by the Inn to be severely lacking.

FIrst and foremost, we waited nearly 20 minutes before the server bothered to even take our drink order. In the meantime, another couple was seated at the table just next to us, and apparently this couple appeared to be better apt at providing a more substantiative tip because our waiter all but ignored us to lend hand and foot to this table. Mind you, we weren't dressed to the nines...it was brunch after all, but we weren't dripping in diamonds either as the lady next to us was. Despite the fact that this couple was seated 15 minutes after us, they received their drinks first and their food order was taken prior to ours.

Not once during our entire meal did the server bother to fill our water glasses, or stop by to inquire whether everything was ok. It was not...my order was COLD. Probably because it was sitting in the kitchen while our server fawned over the couple next to us.

Completely unprefessional waitstaff put a huge damper on our experience. So much so that I have never even fathomed returning. There are much better eating establishments in the area more than willing to provide far superior service regardless of how fat my billfold may appear to be from first encounter.

Too bad for them because as a principal, I rarely tip less than 30%, which would have been quite a heft tip given our order.

Regardless, my husband has arranged for us to have dinner at The Peackock Inn for my birthday. Too say the least, I am anxious as I do not want my birthday dinner ruined by some punk waiter who feels that they can offer different levels of service dependant upon the amount of the tip they think they will receive. Let's hope that this establishment can redeem itself this time around.

“Elegant dinning in a quaint setting”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

My wife and I had our first dining experience at the Peacock Inn for Valentine's Day weekend 2013. Housed within a recently renovated and significantly upgraded Bed and Breakfast/Inn, the atmosphere and decor is quaint, but fresh. Everything from the valet parking to the host to the wait service was executed attentively, flawlessly, and with unpretentious high class. The facility was very well staffed, so there was always someone to accommodate a request or to simply provide the details of a marvelously planned dinning experience.

Be aware that the menu is usually broken down into two main options: 4 course prix fixe and 6 course tasting menu. Either can be enjoyed with an additional cost wine pairing or a higher cost grand wine pairing. For the Valentine's Day dinner services, only the 4 course option was available, which was delectable from start to finish and comfortably paced. Just bear in mind that all of this great food and service does not come inexpensively. The 4 course prix fixe with cocktails for the two of us, instead of the wine pairing, was over $275 with the tax and tip included. Regardless of the fact that this was one of the most expensive dinner engagements that we've experienced, it was definitely worth every penny, and has instantly established itself as our favorite restaurant in Princeton, NJ.

A uniquely special restaurant for people seeking the finest in culinary presentation, food quality, service attention and ambience. The Peacock Inn is a wonderful choice for that very special occasion. Barry Sussman is to be highly complimented for his creation of a gem of a restaurant and inn.

“First time here; very impressed”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Had dinner at Peacock Inn on Saturday 2/2/13. Service was excellent - attentive without being intrusive. Food was also excellent; the three of us did the four-course tasting menu, and we enjoyed all of the items, especially the entrees (salmon, veal, and duck) and the desserts (particularly the date cake with toffee and the chocolate brownie, which is more like a flourless chocolate cake). Pricing is at the high end for Princeton, so it's best for people who are either price insensitive or celebrating a special occasion, but we would recommend the restaurant and expect to return.

“Simply Heavenly!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Stumbled across the Peacock Inn quite by accident, but OH WHAT A FIND and even better it was my birthday! They have an incredible pre-fixe 4 course or 5 course tasting menu with or with out wine pairing. We first received a tasting of a complimentary creamed parsnip & shrimp soup....delicious. The bread from Sullivan Street bakery in NY was Sour Dough or MultiGrain, both crispy and sublime. We went with the 4 course with wine pairing and the only word I can come up with to describe the food & it's presentation is PERFECTION. Our first course consisted of a delicious beet salad for me & Oysters for my fella. I then had the Gnocchi with Enoki mushrooms (which our server recommended...an outstanding choice) & he had Hudson valley Foie Gras, my entree was 2 different cuts of veal, tender & delicious and he had the Tile fish. Our fourth course I had the cheese plate and he the cheesecake. The service was impeccable. Highly recommend The Peacock Inn especially for a special occasion!
