This hotel is known as the PELICAN POINT MOTEL, but I found it listed as the Colonial Motel on this trip advisor. We spent from Sunday night to Friday checkout. We had the two bedroom, (one separate bedroom) which was SO CLEAN COMPARED TO THE AMETHYST!! The staff was accommodating in the office, friendly, HAPPY TO DO THEIR JOB AND MORE!!! The room staff was impeccable. I was here with my 11 year old twins and husband who NEVER likes to vacation. He love the clean, peaceful atmosphere that we encountered, not only on the entire premesis, but especially at the pool. The parking was easy, the check in easy, five minute walk from the best part of the board walk, and I can't say it enough, CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN!! No moldy smell like the Amethyst, no crusty feeling carpets like the Amethyst. You may get free bagels and coffee at the Amethyst, but you get a very functional kitchen style environment that I cooked MANY meals and saved on restaurant bills. A FULL SIZE REFRIGERATOR TOO!! I will come back many times this year and in years to come! Say hi to Theresa and her wonderful son, who works at night at the front desk. And before I forget, the bed I slept in was BRAND NEW!!!!! Not a lumpy old, smelly mess that did not even allow for sleep, like I suffered at the Amethyst!!!! Laura and the kids send our love to the Pelican Motel!

Room Tip: Ask and pay extra for the 2 bedroom, it is two beds in the back room and one in the living room area, very comfortable!!!

we went with our two kids (7 & 2). close enough to the boardwalk/beach to walk (couple blocks). pool was clean. room was clean (carpets left your socks a bit dirty, but I expected that), staff very friendly, management very pleasant & accommodating. because we went early in the month, got a GREAT price on a two bedroom (1 separate room) efficiency, w/ 3 beds. only complaints, beds were very uncomfortable and after 2nd day, AC unit started leaking water in the room. (we rigged something to catch the water so the carpet wouldn't get soaked). BUT we noticed they were in the process of updating several other rooms, and it appeared they were putting in new mattresses, too. Saved a ton on food by buying & cooking ourselves, so we could do more on the boardwalk, etc. with the kids without getting nauseous, lol. That being said, I will definately keep this place high on my list of choices for next year. It was almost perfect for us.

We came in for a Sunday and Monday and this is a typical beach motel- not overly fancy on the fixtures, beds or linens, but very clean and more than adequate. With the beach close by, why would you spend any time awake in the room?
The beach is two blocks away- it's about a five minute walk, which was no big deal since we didn't have kids, chairs, etc. They do have chair and buggy rentals available for those who do want/need all of that, but if you're not into carrying, Jenkinson's also rents chaise lounges for $5 per day. Beach passes are $4 in the office, or $7 on the beach, so it's a money-saver to get them before you go!
We were initially put in Room 9 on the back side of the motel, and the air conditioning was anemic at best. When we went out for dinner we turned it all the way one way, to no success, and when we went out for drinks we turned all the way the other way, also to no success. We ended up changing rooms, and they were very nice to come and accomodate us, even though it was early the next morning. Room 8 was much bigger, had a table and chairs, though we heard from other guests that the nicest rooms are on the front side of the motel, which are also closest to the pool.
The pool was small, but clean, and it was getting lots of use! =)
The motel office closes after 9-10, so make sure you have everything you need before then!
Spano's down at the other end of the boardwalk had great food and HUGE portions, but our favorite is always Europa, the Portuguese restaurant on Arnold Avenue - best paella we've ever had!

In reviewing this motel the thing that stands out the most is the owner and staff. Very nice people and very accomodating. A+++ for service. The motel itself is a close walk to the boardwalk/beach. The rooms were very clean but dated. The only real complaint was that the air conditioning didn't work. We were there to go to the beach & boardwalk. We weren't in the room much. It is exactly what we needed.

As we were driving down the parkway to the hotel asking when we'd be there...(at about 3:00, were 20 minutes away) get a call saying they cant hold my room because the card was "declined" - thats crap because it was a debit card with wayyy more than enough money on it - anyway, when I finally gave up and used a credit card and was paid, they said, okay, you are room "8" and the key will be inside, go right in. Weird.

Next, we get there and its a ghost town.. The office was closed.... noone was around... Walked right in the room, and it smelled like old moldy hotel. Then we proceeded to try and put things in the minifridge, but it was not working at all. Tried to find ice machine...(because there was ice bucket) no...but then found it locked up.. great.. Walked around to finally find other tenants who said... they knew the office would not be open til tomorow. Got in the car, and drove around to figure out where I can buy ice, and stored it in the garbage can. At checkout time, noone was again around. Probably wouldnt go back, only if it was the ONLYY place still available for last minute.

Other than the weird things (also random wires sticking out of the wall) it was a 2 block walk to Jenks club/tikibar/the beach. And thats THE ONLY thing this place has got going for it == A nice drunk walk back, where you forget about those weird things after a good night.
