Description: Spano's Ristorante Italiano is a wonderful little store front restaurant just like you see in Brooklyn, with a quaint interior featuring oversized comfy booths and Italian music to complete the ambiance. The restaurant gets bustling after 6pm, and on weekends there can be quite a wait. The good news is they're open 7 days a week, so you can get the same amazing food on Tuesday without a wait. Speaking of the food, its authentic old world Italian prepared by Chef Joseph Spano. All ingredients are fresh, never frozen...fresh local fish and seafood, the highest quality veal, cut and pounded daily for the Veal dishes, Same with the chicken and eggplant, all prepared fresh daily. Spano's marinara sauce is the original winner of the Boss of the sauce contest sponsored by a local radio station and featuring all of the Shores Italian restaurants, as voted by a panel of judges and the general public. All of our ravioli, cheese filled, lobster, and specialty (like roasted butternut squash, or Osso Bucco) are handmade. They make the dough, they make the filling, and they stuff and cut each ravioli by hand. The portions are oversized, and the prices are very reasonable. They have an extensive menu and use only Certified Angus Beef, many of the dishes can be seen on their Facebook page at spanosristoranteitaliano and they open daily at 4pm. 7 days a week. With homemade desserts like the NY cheesecake, tiramisu, bread pudding and apizza dolce (Italian ricotta cheesecake) and delicious Cappuccino to finish off your meal, you can't go wrong at Spano's!

“Disappointing....”
Reviewed April 19, 2013

We have been going to Spano's for years and have always enjoyed the food. The last few trips the food has been a let down to say the least. Well this last week we decided to give it one last try.. This last trip there I decided to try a beef dish that was supposed to be filet of beef tips in what was described by the waitress as similar to an "Italian beef stew over noodles". From the menu description it sounded like it would be really good. Well, that was far from case.. I can't say it was bad, because it had no flavor at all. It gave new meaning to the word bland, and the noodles were extremely under cooked, and the filet had no seasoning, and the sauce had not taste. Another member of our party had a steak that was grilled with absolutely no seasoning at all..it was a good cut of meat, but again bland.. The vodka sauce on the pasta also very bland. . The pasta fagioli tasted like it was out of a can.. The crab cakes appetizer was the only truly enjoyable part of the meal.. They were fresh and well seasoned..
Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive, as was the hostess. The service was efficient, courteous and fast. I am not sure what has changed but the food is just not the same as it once was, and all 4 members of our party agreed on this.. I don't think we will be going back..

“Really Good Italian Food”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

Four couples had dinner here last Friday evening. Many entrees to choose from. Everyone in my party raved about the taste of the food and the nice portion sizes. Atmosphere was excellent, service was great and all-in-all made for a perfect dining experience.

“Nice Italian meal”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

NJ may be the best place in America to get Italian food. Spano's served an excellent meal. I had a pasta dish, and my wife had the seafood feast, both were tasty and plentiful. There was no line on a Friday night, though we had been warned there would be. I will go again.

“Authentic Italian Dining”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Spanos represents the traditional italian food. Everything that I have eaten is always fresh and excellent as soon as the food touches my mouth. The flavor is amazing. My favorite special is the Pork Chob Balsamico. Excellent taste very nice and tender. The appetizers are fantastic. Fried Calamari is out of this world, cooked very perfect. You can tell by the taste of the food that the Chef puts his heart into everything that comes out of his kitchen. The waitresses and servers are excellent. I would absolutely recommend this restraunt to anyone and everyone. The two hour trip from West Point is easy when we know we are going to spanos.
