The Inn at Ocean Grove
Ranked #2 of 19 Ocean Grove B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 25, 2010

My husband and I just returned from a weekend in beautiful, quaint Ocean Grove, NJ, where we stayed for two nights at The Inn at Ocean Grove, at first glance a perfectly charming bed and breakfast. We had the "pleasure" of staying in Room #4, nothing more than a "glorified closet" with a double bed, although it did have a private bathroom. As the weekend progressed, the lack of attention to detail became more and more apparent. Now, I must admit that I am not a "clean freak" but when I am spending hard-earned money at a pricey Jersey Shore B&B, I expect not to have to share the dirt of the room's previous occupants. In addition to the room appearing somewhat "run down," there was a definite lack of thorough cleaning. When you wipe water from the floor after a shower with a white towel and the towel turns black, it speaks volumes about the last time the floor must have been adequately washed. It was also obvious that no one had swept/vacuumed very well under the armoire.

Breakfast was "okay," consisting of a freshly-prepared choice of scrambled eggs, cheese omelet, french toast or pancakes served with turkey sausage and a slice of cantaloupe. Serve-yourself items included coffee (no decaf), orange juice, whole peaches and plums and streusel-topped pound cake. Immediately prior to checking out this morning, we sat down to enjoy breakfast and after starting our meal were joined by two other guests. As mt husband had nearly finished 1/2 of his pancakes (WITH SYRUP) one of the women poured said syrup on her french toast, only to discover it was infested with gnats. Needless to say, my husband promptly discarded the remainder of his breakfast.

Upon checkout, the proprietor/manager (not sure which he was) did not even inquire about our stay. That being said, I would definitely never stay at this establishment again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

My husband and I stayed at the inn at ocean grove. The inn is beautiful and quaint. We slept in the Angelic Bedroom. This bedroom has its own bathroom. I noticed some of the other rooms do not have a personal bathroom. The jacquzzi is right across from the bedroom but we did not have the opportunity to use it. The bedrooms do not have TV's however there is a common area on the top floor that has a TV. The room also has an AC but we rarely used it because there was always a cool oceanbreeze. The inn also provides breakfasts which includes tea, coffee, cake, toast, preserves, fresh fruit, pancakes, scrambled eggs, omlets, and french toast. The inn is about a block away from the beach. The area is clean, peaceful and beautiful. George was our innkeeper. He was pleasant and helpful.

We have been coming to The Inn at Ocean Grove for the past five years and consider it one of the best choices along the Shore for value, cleanliness and charm.
They also have a great breakfast cooked to order and a knowledgable staff that can find bargains in The Grove and nearby Asbury Park.
Even though we live nearby in Ocean County, we take several "mini vacations" here in summer and fall and recommend it highly. The roof deck offers a great view as well as lounge chairs and the patio and porch are great places to mingle or relax.
In short, This place is Ab Fab, Absolutely Fabulous!

My family has been meeting for a reunion annually for the past 10 years. As there are 25 of us, with ages from my parents (70's) to my niece( under 5), we needed a place that would accommodate everyone and that we could have the whole place to ourselves. 7 years ago, we were lucky enough to find the Inn. My family has been there ever since. since this past trip was our 10 year reunion, we were greeted with a lovely sign out front. The large, shaded porch was cool and inviting, with ample space to sit and relax. George could not have been more gracious, helping out with the flurry of all the family arriving at the same time. the Inn had been freshly painted inside, with some room completely redone. George had a full supply of discount beach tags, as well as towels if we needed them. The Inn is a block and a half to the beach, which is great for the little ones. We had a BBQ on Sat, night to celebrate some graduations; George not only let us use the grill; he didn't mind when we stored some pasta and potato salad in the fridge in the main kitchen. Mia kept everything spic-and-span and didn't mind when we had our breakfast in both the dining room and on the porch. There was coffee/tea and cake in the afternoons - a nice treat! we've already booked for next year. The shops and restaurants were an easy walk, as was the Great Auditorium, if you're here for a concert. The Inn is one of my favorite places to stay and helped make me fall in love with Ocean Grove.
PS - there were older posts commenting on the noisiness of the street. George had mentioned that a nearby "Hotel" had had some issues with residents, but that has been addressed this year

Our stay at the shore was interrupted by a noisy neighborhood with honking taxis and police calls across the street. We don't expect silence at a busy tourist town but this was crazy. The room was comfortable and innkeeper pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately we will stay elsewhere next time.

A break in the chilly spring brought us to our favorite hotel this time with two grandchildren in tow. We stayed in one of the three apartments they rent out and found more than enough bedspace as well as a flat screen TV and a full kitchen (eating a few meals in the apartment saved us a lot). The shops in town were bustling with activity brought on by the warmer weather. After shopping we found a playground just two blocks from the inn where the kids made a few friends and promised to meet again when summer officially arrives. So now the tradition is passed along to a new generation.

We love staying in Ocean Grove and chose this B&B based on some the reviews we read here. We made a reservation for the Tamarind Room and checked in with no problem. After that, the inn staff never bothered to even say hello to us and I had to search for someone to give the key to when we checked out. The room itself seemed adequate at first... until I took a closer look at the baseboard radiators, which obviously hadn't been dusted in a very long time (if ever). They were covered in a thick layer of dust and hair -- gross. The shower curtain in the bathroom was too long for the tub, and the bottom 4-5 inches was discolored and moldy. I couldn't believe the cleaning staff would leave it in that condition. Definitely will look for a cleaner hotel next time!
