I have been going to the Scarborough Inn for twenty years and there is nowhere else I would stay when I go to Ocean City. My eyes actually tear up when I go to check out at the end of the season. Friends have asked to come with me to the Scarborough because they have heard me talk so glowingly about it for years. They now go every year and thank me repeatedly for introducing them to "this wonderful place".
I love the beautiful and comfortable bedrooms, the spacious and charming living room, the wrap around porch, the breakfast food selection, the afternoon snacks, and most of all Gus and Carol Bruno and the staff. They greet me so warmly and make me feel so very welcome every time I arrive at the Inn and always make my stay a wonderful one. It is truly my home away from home because of how happy I feel when I am there.

We have been coming to Ocean City with a group of friends for about 30 years of which the last 6-8 years has been at the Scarborough. As usual we had a wonderful time. We especially enjoy the breakfasts and sitting on the porch rocking the chairs away. Thank you again, Gus and Carol, for making us feel welcome. See you next year!

A group of about 20 of us, celebrated a 45th nursing reunion at The Scarborough. The staff warmly welcomed us to their charming Inn. This lovely, home like setting reflects the personal touch ot the owners. Our rooms were beautifully decorated, airy, bright and pristine. The wrap around porch and two living rooms made for a very comfortable setting for all of us, or separate small groups. The quality of the Inn staff was far above what we commonly see today. Delicious breakfasts made for a great start each morning. We had fun, felt at home and all slept well each night. Before we left we were unanimous in our decision to make this an annual event and already booked for 2013. Thank you to the Innkeepers for a wonderful experience !

Room Tip: Book early...all the rooms are lovely. Decide if you want a regular room or a suite and look at the...

Thank you so much for choosing the Scarborough Inn as your "home away from home" for your Nurses Reunion. It is remarkable to think about the amount of care and concern that all of you have contributed to your patients over these years. Congratulations on this very special milestone!

We are very pleased that your group enjoyed our B&B and found the guestrooms attractive and comfortable; plus the common areas great places to gather - for groups of various sizes. With so many people interested in healthy eating these days, I am gratified to hear that you found the daily breakfasts "delicious."

Thank you for mentioning our excellent staff, as well. We recently held a Staff Appreciation Picnic to let them know we value them, too!

The best affirmation is that your group has already made reservations for next year when we will be honored to welcome your return. Thank you VERY much!

We love the Scarborough inn! We have stayed at many places in O.C. Over the years, but finally found our favorite. Everything is top notch and you really feel like you are staying with friends. Very accommodating and convenient. Excellent staff, rooms are clean and inviting and even a rainy day can be fun here with their "library" and "sojourn room" (games room". Very relaxing and secure location. See you there next year!

Since you're "new" to the Scarborough Inn, you may not know that we are celebrating our 25th. year as innkeepers - your enthusiastic review is a wonderful "gift" to us and our staff.

When we bought this historic building it was very different - all white exterior - and old-fashioned bathrooms, no AC, TV, even alarm clocks! No breakfast or afternoon refreshments, no carpet in some rooms, antique dressers covered with layers of paint, and lots of pink, vinyl headboards!

As you can imagine, we have spent a considerable amount of time, money and effort to create the B&B we have today. It regularly receives high praise from professional reviewers like PINJ or AAA, but we deeply appreciate it when our guests are so very positive. It particularly touches our hearts that you have tried other places - right here in Ocean City - and declare the Scarborough Inn your "FAVORITE."

Thank you so much; see you next year!

My husband stayed here for a Friday night in August. We were very lucky to find a stay of one night, as there is usually a minimum stay of 2-3 during the season. Only room left was the Palma room. Do not stay in this room: very small, dark atmosphere, windows right next to another inn so have to have shades down. At least the rooms on the other side looked over a parking lot so they were much brighter. Also, noisy air conditioner unit in window.
Very disappointed in brkf that was served on Sat. morning. Some sort of tasteless egg square topped with smoked turkey. brkf potatoes served with black beans and corn. Very unappealing and unusual for wkd brkf when inn is sold out. fruit before entree was kiwi and watermelon, would be better with some sort of melon, strawberries, blueberries, etc.... Anyway, would like to say that the staff is extremely friendly. Outside appearance of inn is very charming. Do not feel that our rate of $200+ was good value. Would have rather stayed at Hampton or Fairfield. Feel sad to say that when B+B stay should be special.

Room Tip: make sure room is on parking lot side of building where there is sunlight.

I am glad we were able to accommodate you for the one night that you needed when you contacted us at the last minute and thank you for acknowledging our efforts.

Staying in a B&B is like staying in someone's home - the decor and food is unique to each establishment. However, with all of the information available on the Internet (plus phone contact), it should never be a surprise.

For example, the Palma room is pictured and described on our website. The decor is slightly tropical with bed coverings that have a black background, but a design that features cream, burgundy, and bright greens; the walls are white. It is 168 square feet, not including the bathroom, and has 4 fully functioning windows for light and fresh air. Windows have sheers or lace curtains (for filtering light & providing privacy), plus shades for (darkening). Therefore, privacy should not be an issue and many guests find the decor quite lovely.

We are located on a small island and space is at a premium. Even multi-million dollar mansions in "the Gardens" section are relatively close to each other. However, here at the inn we have done a number of things to increase privacy and enhance our exterior spaces. We purchased a building to the north and transformed it into a parking lot so guests could enjoy free, on-site parking. We also surrounded it with lovely plantings. On the south side, we added a fence, rose garden, and patio space - you can see part of this area from the Palma room.

Rates are higher in August, but competitive and very reasonable considering that they include many in-room features as well as Breakfast and Afternoon Refreshments. Other amenities, including several common areas, are available to all guests - no matter what rate they pay for their room or suite. (Suites are considerably larger and include: in-room coffee bars, iPod docks, bathrobes, and a small refrigerator). We also enjoy a stellar location – close to the beach, boardwalk, and recreation/ entertainment core.

On business trips we have stayed at chain hotels. Typically, they are located on major interstates and are surrounded by blacktop and/or traffic. Muffins or pastries are made on a production line; fruit cup comes from a jar and often contains preservatives or other additives. Eggs are pre-made or powdered and kept in steam tables. The predictability and convenience is appealing to some travelers.

We want guests to be comfortable and happy during their stay. But, did you ask anyone to look at the AC unit? Did you request another option for breakfast? Did you read the Guest Information book in your room to help you become familiar with the inn?

Finally, you suggest that people not stay in the room you had, but frankly, people like different rooms – for their own reasons. For example, the Palma room gets afternoon sunlight & the prevailing breeze is from that side of the building – some of our guests appreciate those attributes. Rooms on the north side of the building get morning sunlight and have more visual space, so early risers like them best.

Individually decorated rooms with uniqueness and character; homemade foods using fresh, seasonal ingredients; a wonderful location plus friendly staff; and great attention to detail are factors that make a stay at the Scarborough Inn a memorable experience!

This was our third trip this season to the Scarborough Inn. Every stay outdoes the previous one. The owners, Carol and Gus have many years of experience in the hospitality business and it shows in the first-rate product they provide their guests. The staff, from the Ocean City natives, to the international exchange students, is always attentive and takes care of your every need. The breakfasts are different and always delicious. Everything is fresh. The beach is only two blocks away. After a long day there, a nice cup of coffee and the unusual snacks, while sitting on the front porch are a perfect end to the day. When evening arrives, the dining options are numerous and most are within walking distance. The amazing boardwalk is 2 ½ miles long and includes something for everyone from quaint shops to amusement rides and live entertainment. The rooms are clean, fresh, and well appointed and make you feel like you are at home, which is exactly the goal of a good bed and breakfast. While the Scarborough was fully occupied, it never lost the quiet and relaxed feel that draws you to it. There is no better value in Ocean City and we will be back again soon.

My husband and I were looking for a quiet but busy area away from Atlantic City and came across Ocean City. Ofcourse this project became my project and I must say it was worth every effort. We stayed at the Scarborough Inn just 25 minutes from Atlantic City; and can honestly say that we had a splendid time. This was our first bed and breakfast which will not be out last stay with Scarborough Inn. The room was cozy and cute, the breakfast was exceptional and the staff was great. Our anniversary was in June but due to other obligations we waited until this time to celebrate; to our surprise we were greeted with complimentary chocolate covered strawberries provided by the Inn. Great gesture for a husband who loves chocolate! While they are walking distance to the beach, boardwalk, and a few restaurants; there is a greater desire for more food selections outside of pizza, pasta or fudge/ice cream. With that said we hope to return again, but this time with the luxury of a car to travel outside of the area for other food and shopping criteria.

Congratulations on your very first stay at a B&B - it is a very different experience from chain motels/hotels and we are so pleased that you describe your experience at the Scarborough Inn as "splendid" and especially, that you will return. Thank You!

We appreciate that you consider the breakfast "exceptional" and the staff "great" - we know they enjoy interacting with Inn guests and work hard to please all of our visitors. I will certainly share your praise with our staff members.

You also mention that you enjoyed our close proximity to the beach and boardwalk and liked visiting AC, as well. How wonderful that you enjoyed such a varied vacation getaway.

Regarding food options, I just want to mention that there are a number of restaurants within walking distance, too. For example, there is a small family-owned seafood restaurant around the corner. They have home-style sides and seafood fresh from their own fish market. There's a cafe run by a native of France that offers lovely main dish and dessert crepes. On Asbury Avenue you'll find a bistro with fresh made salads and delicious pannini. There are so many options! Ocean City is a dry town, but we will direct you to restaurants with bars or a variety or BYO establishments, too, if you're interested Please be sure to ask for assistance next time you visit. We look forward to your return.
