Just came home today from a week at the Sahara. Same problems as the others. 3 of us and 2 towels. Did not get maid service every day, garbage and towels left on piles outside of the rooms.
When we checked in we had to wait about 1 1/2 hours to get into our room. They said the room was not ready, we were sitting in 100 degree heat and could see our room and nobody went in or out of it. The room was made up I looked in the window. The one guy has you sign for towels but what you sign is to refuse maid service for that day. Some guests when the got towels did not get them until after 6:00 PM. Most returning customers were given several stories as to why Nick and Kenny were not there. The place is now being run by Cabrera Property Management.
They have some staff that have only been there for 1 week. Still pretty clean but not even close to being what it was. So Ricky when you respond to this be honest your housekeepers are not doing the job. And if anybody stays here bring your room confirmation with you. The lady at the desk could not find me on there list but was willing to give me a good deal on a room. I handed her a copy of the confirmation and all of a sudden she found me. No idea what the rates are going to be like in 2013.

My family and I have stayed at the Sahara for many years. We were deeply disappointed over the course of the week of our stay during 4th of July.
Upon check-in the desk manager had to check with housekeeping repeatedly to confirm the room was ready. Once there we were given 3 towels for 4 people. The drapes were pinned shut with a safety pin. We thought either the drapes/hardware had an issue or housekeeping did not clean the room well enough to open the drapes for the arrival family. It turned out to be the latter of the two. The A/C did not seem to be working well for the hottest week of the summer yet. A/C filters were plugged solid, freezing up, which would result in no cooling. We fixed that as we knew nobody was available. There were extension cords running the length of the room connecting the microwave and fridge, along with some other items. One of the outlets was not working and made it difficult to style one's hair. The ice machine was also broken.
The next day, we were given 3 sets of towels (again) for 4 people. A/C window unit needed water on outside coil to keep from overheating, which would result in no cooling. We fixed that as we knew nobody was available. Upon further review of the drapes, it seems when they were reinstalled after cleaning they were not pinned properly. We fixed that too. There was nobody available to light the one working grill, so we bought a lighter to do it ourselves.
The following day, again the towel situation had not been resolved, but something new. The person who brought the towels asked for the signature of one of the minors in the room. Housekeeping had not come all day, and upon inquiring, found out that the "signed" clipboard meant "we didn't want housekeeping". At last I checked, my son was not paying the bill and should not be asked to sign anything!
The following day we needed to do laundry, of the two washers and two dryers, half were broken and the other half didn't spin and/or dry the clothes, causing us to lose vacation time to sit and watch clothes dry.
There was good news that day, the right number of towels were delivered!
This motel has had a great reputation and I'm afraid that, with the new management, the great service that Nick and Kenny provided has already been lost. I probably will not be back.

We have been staying at the Sahara Motel for 26 years and we were looking forward to seeing Nicky and Kenny and when we arrived they were NO where to be found. We asked the front desk clerk she said they were on vacation and the cleaning crew said they had an emergency..... We have been going there just because of the family welcome we would receive and even though the place was clean and wonderful as usual it wasn't the same.

I have stayed here several times over the past 10 yrs, and this year was by far the best year. The rooms were very clean and there are a lot of new faces that breathed some life into this older spot. The one person from the front desk noticed i had too many bags and helped me with them to my room. The sand out side was very groomed and packed, just perfect for a AM jog on the beach. I really enjoyed my weekend here and would like to recommend it to anyone that reads this review. If anyone is thinking about the Days Inn down the street... JUST DONT even consider it.

Management response:Responded July 8, 2012

We are sorry you feel this way.
We are taking the necessary measures so that this won't happen again.
The front desk staff was new at the time, we were also changing to a new property management system which is now computerized. We now fully staffed and very familiar with the property. Originally the pool did not have a certified pool operator, now it's managed by a professional. We have the maintenance staff to take care of issues such as the one with your chair (incident that could have happened if Nick and Kenny had been here or not).
The property is clean and will continue to be one of the best independent hotels in the area.
Thank you,

Showed up June 17, early as usual (12ish) check in is 2. New faces at desk, room not ready, not a cleaning person in sight. Asked for cell #, would call when room was ready. Never called, showed back up around 215, desk clerk had to run up to the room to see if it was cleaned, then asked only cleaning person there if it was ready. Finally got to our room. 2 towels for 4 people, food on top of fridge from microwave, tv in bedroom cable box not working properly, dust everywhere. Office had a tablet full of complaints and issues, just added ours and went about our week vacation. Pool cloudy from day one, closed by Wednesday (first 100 degree day of the week) due to NO ONE cleaning it the entire time before closing it. Trash laying everywhere, chairs on sun deck in disarray, ash trays full of cigarette butts. NEVER have experienced these conditions in the past 9 visits to this motel. Things did seem to be a tad better by the time we left Friday but only in the area of rooms being cleaned and ready a lot faster. We certainly hope to call this winter and hear Nick or Kenny again as we like the motel, the location but mostly the family that always seemed to take better care of us. Missed those guys & our regular Sahara Staff!
