“Best choice for Newark”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

We booked this hotel as a last minute option, and we chose this due to its proximity to the station as our purpose is to visit New York. Although I have read about negative feedback surrounding the hotel due to a number of homeless wandering around the vicinity, it didn't bother us since we only stay at the hotel for sleeping and if we go out, we go straight to the Train station for New York. It may not be as pleasant as outside, however, inside, it's really worth it, rooms are nice, our view is magnificent, facing Manhattan skyline, and looking from our window, the view of the sunset/sunrise is just awesome. . .

I would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely choose this again the next time we come back to New York.

TIP: choose higher floors facing manhattan, double room is so spacious as compared to Best Western hotel we tried in Paris and London.

PROS - accessibility to Newark Penn station (22 minutes travel time to World Trade Center)
- rooms are spacious and clean
- shuttle bus service to/from Newark airport or newark penn train station

CONS - Breakfast is just so-so, small place and could be crowded at times
- outside the hospital, a scenery of homeless wandering around (didn't bother us as we didn't go out the hotel

All in all, still a place for us to stay the next time we are around.

Room Tip: TIP: choose higher floors facing manhattan, double room is so spacious as compared to Best Western...

Have stayed many times. Staff is terrific. Very convenient to EWR & NYC. They offer shuttle service to both EWR & Newark Penn Station. Newark Penn is only a 5 minute walk from the property. Breakfast is convenient and runs late. Definitely a worthwhile stay.

On a recent business trip to NJ I stayed at the Best Western Robert Treat. The hotel is in a great location and has quite a few interesting options within walking distance. The rooms are older, but in decent shape and reasonable clean. My stay, however, was less than pleasant. The staff was extremely rude, so rude in fact that I contacted the general manager. His first response was to tell me it wasn't his staff. Wow! I never got so much as an apology. I boycotted Best Western for almost 15 years after my last bad experience. I don't think I'll ever stay in one again. Completely unprofessional from the top down. If you stay here you're just rolling the dice. The service depends on which staff members you come in contact with and obviously poor behavior is tolerated from the staff here. Not only did I receive horrible service, but I watched other customers treated with complete disrespect.

The breakfast was also pretty miserable. Toast/begals, cereal and coffee. That's it.

You have to feed cash in to the computer in the business center to print boarding tickets, etc. The computers are absolutely disgusting. I didn't even want to touch the keys. The internet in the room is slow/sporadic at best, but at least it's free.

First off, the location is amazing. My husband, my 9 month old and myself visited this hotel for 3 days. We planned a trip to NYC and this was a perfect hotel to stay at. I was actually expecting less of this hotel since its a best western, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that it was a wonderful place to stay.

The hotel is located a few short steps away from a concert hall/pavillion. The area seems very safe and we felt perfectly fine walking around with our baby , even took a walk throught the park in front of the hotel. The area between the hotel and penn station are great..But beware ...a few blocks in the other direction was a COMPLETE change, we googled a burger king and it seemed to be in the middle of the ghetto! but around the hotel it is completely fine.

Penn station is a 10 minute walk away but if you dont feel like walking, the free shuttle will take you there. At Penn station, we jumped on the PATH train for a 15 minute ride, which leaves you right next to the world trade memorial. The station was clean and as this was our first time in NY we were glad to find people who helped us find the best transportation method to NYC. Once the path train arrives at Penn station, it does not take off right away like the trains in chicago, it will wait a few minutes before it goes anywhere , so no need to run : )

The hotel has a semi fancy restaurant on the first floor, the food was very good and you dont need reservations.

There is a small convenience store in the lobby and there is also a guest lounge where they serve a free continental breakfast. There is not too much sitting space so get there early to beat the crowd.

Free parking. The parking lot gets more and more packed throughout the day but the 2 men working the lot are awesome and they will find a spot for your car even when you think there isnt.

A great little treasure at this hotel is the rooftop. On a clear day you can see manhattan. There are picnic tables so we had a lovely lunch up there. But if you have small children please keep them close...the bars along the rooftop seem to be spread wide apart and it would make me nervous if i had a small child walking around.

The bathrooms were small, and its not the most updated either. The doors dont drown out all the noise so in the morning around 8 am..we started hearing folks walign around doors closing and the elevator, but it was faint and not bad enough to complain. Fridge in our room, great view of the park, at the end of every hallway there is a small kitchenette with sink , microwave, coffee maker, and table. Overall we were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and convenience of this hotel during our NYC visit. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room thats not next to the elevators.

We didn't plan to be in our hotel room a lot as we were there to experience NYC...it was a great find...close to Penn Station, clean and quiet included parking..I would definately recommend to friends and family.

We stayed there during our NY-NJ tour. Primary reason to choose this hotel was the location - close to Newark Penn Station. Though they have shuttle and they said it runs 24 hours but we never find the shuttles after 10pm. And the shuttle runs very slow. If you can walk (0.7 mile), its better to walk rather than waiting for the shuttle to go Newark Penn Station. Rooms were clean and updated. Free parking! Free breakfast (not so many items though)! But definitely good hotel for the value.

Room Tip: Don't wait for their shuttles rather walk(very slow service)!

When one asks for a non smoking room and told you would have one you should get one - right? Not at this hotel. After insisting my daughter who had prepaid this room in advance was told she might be moved,' if we find one maybe at midnight.'Not what you want to hear after a long flight and a multi hour time change.
