Hilton Newark Penn Station
Ranked #2 of 16 Hotels in Newark
Reviewed June 16, 2012

We enjoyed our stay at this Hilton, which is connected by walkway to Newark Penn station, from which you can take the NJ transit or Metro trains into Manhattan very easily and quickly. [Tip: the metro to World Trade Centre costs only $2 each way, while the NJ Transit is $5] The room was fine, although the bathroom was small compared with the Hampton inn we'd stayed at the previous night. The desk clerk gave us directions to the Portuguese area of Newark, which is only about a five-minute walk away, and we found some good restaurants there. There are also lots of restaurants and shops in the station itself.

The hotel has a complimentary shuttle to Newark airport every half hour up to 6 am, and every hour thereafter.

This hotel is conveniently located across the street from Newark Penn Station and connected to it by footbridge. Additionally, there is a small, indoor shopping area with a Starbucks and a few shops and restaurants. It is not far from Newark Liberty International Airport, making it a true, "intermodal" hotel option for travelers.
I didn't try the restaurant because I checked in very late and time in the morning didn't permit it. However, I did take advantage of the fitness center and found it lacking in space and equipment. While the equipment they did have was state-of-the-art, there just wasn't much of it. The room itself was fairly small and a bit cramped. It could stand a rennovation.
Service was friendly and prompt, which I appreciated. The rooms were typical Hilton and, for the New York/New Jersey area, reasonably sized. The beds were comfortable enough to get a good night's sleep, and although I was near the elevators, I didn't hear much machinery noise (or any other, for that matter). That was very welcome.
I would stay here again, and would also recommend it to people who were traveling through Newark by air or train. It's convenient. And finding the "real" Starbucks inside was very welcome.

We were sailing on a cruise from Newark so with flights also coming into Newark we decided to base our pre cruise three days in this hotel.
We were very pleased with it, rooms were clean and well serviced and you cannot beat the location right beside Penn Station which allowed us to use the PATH direct to 33rd street for $2 each - excellent value.
We were fortunate and had no wait at the Shuttle at P4 at the airport
We ate a snack in the restuarant the first night - husband ordered fish and chips and enjoyed an excellent plate of food, I was less hungry so went for the hummus dip and found a substantial portion. Not sure we would have eaten there if we had not just wanted a snack, it was very much a sports bar, which is not our thing, but the food was good.
All the staff were pleasant, in particular Keith made us very welcome and was most helpful in ensuring we had the right subway and train information and came out of the hotel to make sure we found the overbridge to the station.
Sleep was a little disturbed by sirens, but it was the weekend, and it is in a downtown location.
Would certainly consider staying there again

Hotel is clean, helpfull and convienant skywalk to Penn station. Area is not family walking material at night. Most staff is courteous. Some staff can be a little on the rough side. Otherwise good hotel for the value.

This is a pretty average Hilton and although it claims to be an airport hotel it is not. There is a free shuttle that runs an on the hour service so you can wait a long time. What is good is the location at Newark Penn station if you want to do a luggage free trip into NYC. There is a small executive club lounge but typical of Hilton lounges in the US you still pay for drinks at happy hour so I am not sure there is any advantage in gaining access save for the basic continental breakfast. This is not a tourist area and has little to recommend it so it is basically an airport stopover proposition.

I'll remind myself not to judge this hotel on the fact that an airline screwed me over and I had to pay out of pocket for a hotel room. Anyways.....

While standing at the Hotel Shuttle area at Newark I booked this hotel. Within 10 minutes the shuttle was arrived. Not too bad of a drive but it's definitely not an airport hotel unlike what Hotwire said. It's probably a 10-15 minute drive so it's not bad but it's also not close like some other properties.

Upon arriving we had a very quick check-in and the front desk was very nice and warm. Our room was nice and a good size but the bathroom was tiny! Definitely no room in there for 2 people so if you're in a rush I'd plan accordingly because you're not sharing here! Otherwise, quiet hotel, comfortable beds, good tv selection. Only thing is, I did notice in the morning it does get loud because it's right by Penn Station.

We also stopped at the restaurant downstairs. The bartender was working the whole place so service was a bit slow at times but nothing so outrageous it pissed us off. Tuna melt was excellent and fiance loved his burger. Only thing that caught my attention. When fiance was done with his guinness the bartender walked over and gave him a new one without even asking if he wanted it. seemed a bit odd to just serve up a beer without asking.

otherwise, if i am ever stuck in jersey again, i'd stay but lets hope that never happens!

Stayed at this hotel from May 25 -28 over Memorial Day weekend. Booked on the 10th floor and had a wedding party in the next room which was quite loud, but upon talking to front desk, Alberto moved us to another room and was more than helpful. We moved back to our regular room for the remaining nights and it was very quiet, Breakfast buffet came with our room and was great as was all staff. Gave us bottles of water as we were leaving to go into town. Also have a complementary computer where you can print out your boarding passes and double check on your flight status. Walkway to Path train which will take you to WTC of 33rd St. in Manhatten, Ride is about 20 to WTC and little longer to Manhatten. Cost was 2.50 each way.
Hotel was very clean and all staff very polite and helpful. Complimentary shuttle was waiting for us when we arrived at the airport and leaves on the hour to go back to airport. Only complant was we asked for extra face clothes which we did not get on our last night and we needed a bath mat which they could not provide. There were 5 of us and 2 rooms and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were so tired from being in NYC all day that we heard nothing once we fell asleep, but ear plugs were provided.
