“Excellent restaurant if you want to hang with the locals”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

The seafood is very fresh and delicious and the staff excellent and very attentive. We went the on a Friday and the place was packed. It had all age groups from young kids to grand parents. A great choice if you want to eat fresh sea food. The sangria is a must have.

“Great seafood place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

I shop often at the seabra grocery store which always have fresh seafood and variety, so when I learned they also had a restaurant, we had to try. The place is not upscale, more like a cafe or bistro, but the food is! Among a large choice of fishes and seafood, I choose the grilled octopus, which I have been really fond of lately. The portion was enormous compare to other restaurants, but it was also tender and delicious. My wife took the grilled codfish , also excellent. We had plenty leftover to take home for a second meal. I will take off a point though for the codfish croquette appetizer which came cold. When we ask the waiter to heat it, i guess he just put it in the microwave. These puppies should be pipping hot from the fryer! Overall, greta place to have your seafood fix. One appetizer, 2 entrees and 3 glasses of wine; total bill $ 84.

“The Best Portuguese Seafood in Newark, maybe NYC”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

Went there for Father's Day dinner. Place was packed, had to wait about 45 minutes, there is no hostess, just find the sign in book and enter your name and number of guests.
Had the Fried Calamari for appetizer, my daughter wanted fresh oysters, which she learned had sold out and was offered fresh clams on the half shell. Calamari was very good. Probably about $12.
We had the Seafood Platter, about $44.00 and we both ended up stuff, her boyfriend showed up late and dug in and still there was enough to put into a doggy bag.
Seafood platter, had lobster, shrimp (the big kind), mussels, clams, fish (unsure if it was flounder but was stuffed with something and very good.
The dining area in the back in the principal place to eat, you can also eat at the bar as well as about 5 tables by the window in front by the bar. Service was good, very attentive. Next time I will try the paella. Obs. I was still full when I woke up the next morning.
Parking lot is available across from the restaurant and free for customers(get ticket stamped by waiter). We did not have coffee or dessert at the restaurant as a favorite place for portuguese pastry - Riviera is located about 100 feet away on Ferry Street. Times have changed - although the service is still lacking, the place was dirty, almost all tables had dirty dishes, the banana tort was terrible, carrot cake about the same, the coffee was weak, terrible experience. But this has nothing to do with Marisqueira. I highly recommend this restaurant for seafood (they have meat dishes, but no one ordered.) The kitchen is enclosed in glass, so you can see the cooks prepare the meals. They definitely earn their salary, in constant motion. Place was clean.

“Good seafood, slow surface”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

One will not leave hungry at seabea's but make sure you have plenty of free time because the is extremely slow. We had the seafood platter for 2 for $45. Outstanding! It came with large lobster tail, clams, mussels, calamari, oyster and rice. More than enough for two. Appetizers were average and as I mentioned service was very slow. Seafood is very fresh, portions were abundant but service was slow.

“Avoid tuesdays”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

I have been to seabras many times and always enjoyed the excellent seafood.
A recent visit on a tuesday was remarkable for being so much out of character.
The resturant is normally crowded but on tuesday it was nearly empty. I secured choice seating at a table by the front window but when the food was served i realized the reason for lack of patrons.
The codfish, bacalhau grelhado, was over cooked, dry and burnt. On the other hand the salmon was undercooked with the center still raw.
I believe that tuesday is the cooks day off and the normal crowd knows this hence the empty restaurant.
This was a big disappointment and in the future I will be more cautious.
