“Awesome burger!”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

Came here after reading reviews on trip advisor. We weren't disappointed! It was a Friday night, very loud but friendly crowd. My burger was one of the best I've eaten in a long time and the sweet potato fries were great. We were in Newark for airport pickup, this was a great choice for getting dinner.

“Welcomed from the moment I walked in”
Reviewed July 12, 2013

This is a great Dive bar. The staff was enthusiastic and friendly. Gone were the annoying televisions tuned to ESPN. This place actually encourages interaction among the guests.( I thought that's what bars were for?) There are lots of cool murals on the walls. It looks like a Cop and Fireman hang out, so you'll feel safe in downtown Newark. The food was more than acceptable bar food. Get the Hamburger. A great destination after visiting the Newark Museum. Don't be fooled by the bland exterior, this place is a gem!

“total dive, in a good way”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

This is my first trip to Newark, and I went because of consistent 5-star reviews on trip advisor. This place was not what I was expecting, but it was great. This is a Rutgers student dive bar, in the best sense of that term. The happy hour/dinnertime atmosphere was low key, service was fast and friendly, and people-watching was great. Food was fine, typical bar fare. Only one microbrew on tap, but the import/megabrew selection was pretty good.

“Genuine!”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

This place is like stepping into a working mens club back home in Scotland! I have visited so many so called Irish bars in the US, most of them are nothing like the ones back home, even though they try so hard to be so.

This was genuine, its been around for years and was one of the reasons why I wanted to check it out. Its most likely my ancestors that moved from Scotland to Newark socialized here back the 30s. Its got the atmosphere of the types of places I spent time in growing up back home in Scotland.

The Guinness on tap was good, the food was top notch, as was the service. Cheers guys, keep up the great work!
