“Favorite Spanish Restaurant”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

A little crowded and on weekends a little hectic but well worth the hassle. The food is excellent and the quantities unbelievabel. I get a paella and I can eat for three days. The service is a little rushed but very professional.

“Don't Overlook This Restaurant”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

For years we have been going to Ferry Street in Newark for Portuguese food. The prices kept rising and the quality and service keep going down. On September 27, 2012, we read the reviews on Casa Vasca restaurant, which is away from the main stream of Spanish/Portuguese restaurants in Newark, and thought we would try it. This is, by far, the best Portuguese restaurant for value, service and food. Our meals were delicious, the Red Bean soup, which was served before our entrees, was excellent, and the desert - the almond cake - was the perfect ending to a wonderful experience. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. We have found a new favorite restaurant in Newark and will be back many more times with family and friends. Thank you for such a great experience!

“Buena Comida”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Casa Vasca is an excellent Spanish restaurant in the Ironbound section of Newark,New Jersey. The food is authentic and delicious Spanish cuisine. The servings are enormous. The service is great. One must usually wait to be seated since the restaurant is on the small side but... it is WELL WORTH the wait. One can wait at thebar which serves great drinks.

“Met and then Exceeded My Expectations”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

I was "tired" of the more well known, large Ironbound restaurants and agreed to select a new location for our party of 6 and Casa Vasca proved to be a terrific choice! Had a reservation for 7 Saturday night (they take reservations for 5+); we arrived at 7:15 and were immediately seated near the rear of the dining room. Ordered garlic shimp and calamari (which was large "rings" only with mild sauce) apps to share. The garlic shrimp was quite good, I've had better fried calamari and prefer a hotter sauce, which I'm certain would have been provided if requested. Entrees included 2 paella Valencia, pork chops, veal with sausage, onions and peppers in sherry sauce, and a "spicy" shrimp dish. My veal was tender and tasty in a tomato based sauce, the pork chops were perfectly cooked, the paella received favorable comments. The "spicy" shrimp was very heavy on the garlic, not high on the "heat" meter. Sides included saffron rice and delicious hot potato chips; the pork chops came with steak fries and veggies. We had several pitchers of red sangria which was not "strong" but tasted good. After dinner three ordered Spanish coffee's which were fantastic as well as two flans which were also great. Total bill for 6 (5 entree's) with tax and 20% tip was $250! We took home half of the veal dish and nearly a full serving of paella. After paying the bill and occupying our table for 2.5 hours and still chatting, the owner and a waiter came to our table to ask what they could bring us, offering several after dinner drink choices gratis! Our selections were divided 50/50 between Sambuca and Frangelico on the rocks; each got their choice! A party of 25 was seated at 8:30 in the space behind our table (many from Spain) to celebrate a recent family wedding; the owner apologized if they were too loud (they were not). This gracious offering was above and beyond what would be expected for first time visitors who did not "overspend"-apps were $8 and our entrees were less than $20. As we had stayed well beyond an expected timeframe for dinner, this was so refreshing! I thanked the owner upon leaving and told her that the two couples from Jersey will be returning soon along with recommending to others!! Final comment, if you are celebrating a birthday or special occasion, the wait staff can sing quite well in Spanish, Portuguese, and English!

Looking forward to returning and trying differe t menu choices!!
