Sat outside but became chilly in the evening and the group was uncomfortable in eating.
The portions were large, the house soup was very good.
My only complaint of the restaurants in the Ironbound is that they include the tip in the bill and leave the space for tip empty on credit card charges. So don't tip twice.

We used a Groupon coupon to eat at this Portugese restaurant. With the coupon it was a grood deal for the 4 of us because we got 4 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers and 4 dinners for $75.00. We ordered the fried calamari and mussels appetizers which were very good. For dinner we had a paella, stuffed lobsters and the grilled red snapper and everything came with these delicious potato chip fries. We enjoyed all of the dinners. The restaurant has a free parking lot on the side because parking is impossible on the street. It was very fun for a change of pace.

Really enjoyed the food here. Everything on the menu looked equally good so the only issue is deciding what to eat with so many great choices. Awesome value as the prices are very reasonable! Also really liked the atmosphere - very rustic and elegant. Staff is very friendly and customer focused. Nice all around!

We needed a good late dinner. We wanted a good value. We found a Groupon special for Portucale and decided to give it a try. Turned out to be a good choice, even on a Tuesday night. My stuffed salmon was cooked to perfection. My wife's balcalhau assada had the perfect crispness. The peppers and onions were full of flavor and swimming in olive oil that tasted positively creamy. We'll definitely visit Portucale again, and we'll bring friends.

Went to this quaint little place using a Groupon last weekend. The atmosphere was nice they have an outdoor courtyard with the waterfall but not open due to the season however looked like a nice place to come in the summer. The atmosphere was nice parking was plentiful and they're own lot, menu had a very large selection and price was very reasonable in comparison to other area restaurants. The service was excellent and they immediately brought rolls with butter which were yummy. Our Groupon included two glasses of wine and appetizer and entrée each, the wine was very tasty they offered red or white. We had the red which was very good. For an appetizer we ordered shrimp with garlic sauce which was very good good balance of garlic and not that much oil like some places do, for an entrée we got paella which included the food of various shellfish selections a whole lobster shrimp chicken and sausage and served in a big abundance pot it was made to order and delicious the accompaniment was Portuguese style potatoes however they seemed old and refried not that great. The other entrée was a a tender fillet mignon and lobster tail or surf and turf, it was served with salad and the meat was flavorful and very tender could be cut like with a spoon it was so delicious and tender. We skipped coffee but did share a dessert I cannot recall the name however it was a pear marinated in the Portuguese Portwine it was so delicious and yummy. Overall this is a great little place setback in busy ironbound section of Newark and the food was top notch and service was excellent. Using the Groupon made it very affordable however even without the Groupon their prices seem average for the area.
