SpringHill Suites Newark Liberty International Airport
Ranked #5 of 16 Hotels in Newark

Average airport hotel. Thick, dusty carpets everywhere. Noisy air conditioning. No food in the hotel, except for junk food from vending machines (there is a restaurant in one of the other hotels nearby, within walking distance, though). No memory of the breakfast (probably, not memorable for good and for bad). All in all, what you would expect from a medium-budget hotel near a major international airport of one of the most expensive metropolitan areas worldwide.

Stayed here on a 5-night stay. Took the airport shuttle numerous times in and out of Newark and then took the train to NYC. Shuttle leaves on the half hour and leaves the airport shuttle pick-up area at 15/45. I left the hotel at 7pm and was walking outside Penn Station in NYC at 7:45pm - so if while not 'in the city' - the value makes up for it. Internet service is sketchy, and often extremely slow. Clean, comfortable bed. Air conditioning system a little tricky to get to exactly what you want a little noisy but not horrible.

Breakfast is solid for a free continental - but can be quite busy and difficult to get a place to sit at peak times. A little slow on housekeeping as well. Left one morning before 9am, returned at 3pm and room still not make up. I'd consider returning for a future stay.

Three of us (2 adults one child age 12) traveled here to visit New York City. Stayed 11 nights. Motel is very close to the Newark airport. Free shuttle service every 30 minutes to the motel from P4 location at airport. The drivers were very courteous and helpful. Motel staff was friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean comfortable and reasonably spacious. Has microwave and mini fridge. A good free breakfast with several hot items. Has a small indoor pool. In traveling to New York City from the motel their are several viable options depending on the time and money you want to spend.

1. Take the free motel shuttle to the airport. Ride the Airport Airtrain to the Raillink. Take the NJ transit train to New York Penn Station. The cost is $12.50 per adult and $3.50 per child under 11. (However age limit is not strictly enforced). This takes a total of 30 minutes to an hour.

2. Take the shuttle to the airport. Catch New Jersy transit bus #62 at Bus Terminal A, B or C to the Newark Penn Station train station. Shuttle will let you off at any of three terminals. Terminal A is the easiest to get to. The bus is $1.50 per person and I believe $.70 for elderly and children. You must have exact change and I believe $1 bills or coins only. The bus driver will often send you on without requiring payment of the full fare. Once you get to Newark Penn Station take the PATH train into New York City. The PATH train runs either to the World Trade Center or 33rd Street at 6th Avenue. The 33rd street option requires a transfer at Journal Square stop. (takes longer on weekends b/c of extra stop) All trains leaving Newark Penn Station will say World Trade Center regardless of whether or not you are transferring. You will be promped regarding transfers on the intercom. . The cost of the PATH is $2.25 per person. This way takes a total of 1 to 2 hours with probably an average of 1.5 hours.

3. There is also a bus from the Newark Airport directly into New York City ( I can't recall the name but it is yellow on the sides and clearly indicates it provides transport from Newark to New York City. . I believe it goes to the Times Square area. The cost is $16 per person or $28 round trip. I believe kids ride free. You can board the bus at Terminal C in the airport.

4. Cabs directly into New York or to the Newark Penn Station are also available but that option is very expensive.

We used both options 1 and 2. We did not use options 3 or 4 . For speed, convenience and comfort option 1 is preferrable. For price option 2 is the best. I warn you that option 2 requires a positive attitude and you should be prepared for some delays and inconvenience. I will say we always felt safe on the Newark bus even late at night.

We definitely recommend the motel for people visiting New York City who can't afford to or choose not to spend the extra money to stay in New York City ( 2 to 4 times as much) . Obviously the Motel would also be a great option for those looking for a place close to the airport.

Very close to Newark airport and Jersey Garden Outlets. Hotel stay for 3 nights exceeded all our expectations. We took a King Suite with Sleeper sofa (sofa bed was quite comfortable for 2 adults). Well lit and spacious room. Car Parking is free and enough spaces available at all times. Breakfast was very good and had at least 15-20 items to choose from. The breakfast room hostess kept an eagle's eye over the breakfast table and ensured prompt refills. Even the very professional General Manager was seen looking after guests in the breakfast area and also helping out with check in/out. Very impressive.

For ordering take -out food you may call front desk to connect your call.

If driving - you may have a problem in locating this hotel without a GPS.

To reach Times Square/ WTC - park at Penn Station ($21charge for more than 6 hrs and within 3 km from hotel) and take train (20-25 minutes ride). Otherwise take free shuttle from hotel to Newark Airport and then take Bus#62 to reach Penn Station.

Go for it .. it is a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: 6th floor view is great.

Good hotel, space with ok breakfast (a bit crowded, hectic and running out of stuff) but overall location and free shuttle helped w/ NYC trip. Took shuttle to airport to NJ Path into Penn Station, train a bit overpriced BUT a quick ride getting you to a good central point in NYC for shopping and a comfortable walk to attractions.

Hot tub left lot to be desired but rooms were clean and spacious, priced ok. Very difficult location though (glad we weren't driving ... shuttle took lots of turns and roads but got us there). Never stayed at a Marriott property with an armed security person but they said it was for the cars in the lot. No p[roblems though.

We arrived in Newark at about 8am an were able to check in with no problem.

A shuttle was provided for us from the airport and we arrived just in time for breakfast. The breakfast was very good by hotel breakfast standards. They had eggs, fruit, bread, muffins, cereal, and Greek yogurt.

The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was equip with a microwave, fridge and sink for cooking purposes. The room was very clean.

We were able to take the shuttle from the hotel to the airport train station to get into NYC. This took us about 30-45 min total.

We ended our week's holiday in Stamford/NYC/Poconos by checking into Springhill Suites for our last night since we had an early flight out of Newark the next morning. The hotel is situated along a strip of 3 hotels all owned by Marriott. The access road was extremely difficult to find due to extensive road construction within the area. There is a large parking area behind the hotel. The building exterior/lobby/hallways are clean and well-maintained. Reception desk personnel were efficient/polite/knowledgeable. The hotel had a complimentary breakfast buffet which we could not avail of since our flight was scheduled to leave before the breakfast started. The room was spacious, and was equipped with a small fridge,a couch, and a good-sized desk in an ante-room. Airconditioning was good, and the wall-mounted thermostat was easy to use. We ordered dinner from a Middle Eastern restaurant, and this was delivered to our room after the front desk called us to confirm the order. Wake-up call at 3:30am went smoothly. Shuttle bus to and from the airport was timely every hour and every half-hour. I would recommend this place if proximity to the Newark airport is a priority.
