Of late, my flights to London Heathrow have been from this end (C130)of concourse C. I've found this to be the best place to eat at this end of the concourse. I went for a table, as I don't like sitting at a bar when traveling and didn't fancy juggling on high chairs.

The waiter was attentive and couldn't have been better. I ordered a filet that was reasonably priced and superbly cooked. I washed my meal down with Brooklyn Ale, which was a good choice for me.

If you're a wine buff, you'll enjoy the selection! Le Grand Comptoir is a good place to eat and drink while waiting for your flight. Don't forget to ask for military discounts if your a service member or is ambled veteran.

I KNOW it's a restaurant in an airport but it LOOKS as if it should be good. Sleek and stylish with a fantastic - but pricey - wine list by the glass and by the bottle. Since it WAS an airport restaurant I ordered a glass of wine and a salad - before deciding on a main course. I'm so glad I did. Although the Caesar salad LOOKED promising - deconstructed with the leaves of romaine arranged on a longish plate garnished with what looked like proper parmesan - I would swear the dressing was from a bottle - or worse, from one of those packets you get at a modest take-out - is it called "Ken's"? Needless to say, I didn't order a main course. The wine, by the way, was very nice.

Yes, this airport cafe has a lot of wines by the glass set in a neo-modern style. Go for a table or bar stool, the banquette at the taller tables is uncomfortable and the height between the height of the seat and table seemed out of proportion to me.

You can purchase your an array of wines by the glass in incremental ounce amounts. Based on my wine purchasing this wine bar determines their wine prices based on its retail price (not actual cost) and then marked up an astronomically three to four folds. But I guess that is the price a travel must pay for the convenience of having variety of wines available on an airport concourse.

The food prices are surprisingly more reasonably priced. I found my filet had a some what strange in texture and moistness, which suggested to me the steak may have been pre-seared in advance and then reheated, perhaps using a steamer cooking apparatus. The accompanying asparagus appeared as if it was pre-grilled or oven roasted, and then reheated, as well. The food served had an attractive presentation.

Bottom line, Le Grand Comptoir is not really all that grand, except for the wine choices and their prices. Grand in a name does not make this restaurant grand and from the website, I had much higher expectations versus what I experienced.
