Move over New York this deli has you beat!
The food is why you come here. The interior is dated ( 60s vinyl and dark paneling) but don't let that scare you off.
Sit down and you get a bowl of deli pickles and green tomatos (my favorite) that is exceptional.
They even have exceptional vegetarian dishes such as falafel and hummus that are some of the best I've had.
Sandwiches are stacked high with meat of all kinds including tongue.
This is the place to go when you have a hankering for great deli.

Hobby' s is a very busy sometimes crowded place for lunch but it is so well worth the wait. The deli is absolutely delicious ! The sandwiches are quite large . Great pickles too. People never sem to mind the wait because they know the food is so good. Since Hobby's is in Newark many professional people go there for lunch
Eg: lawyers, judges and business people who work in the vicinity. Many people come from the surrounding suburbs for the excellent food.

I worked in Newark, NJ for over 42 years and this is by far the best place to get food. The sandwiches are huge, bread is fresh, and the salads are perfect. Off of Broad St. location is not far from other attractions, especially the PRU Center. I'm currently on jury duty and I visit Hobby's frequently. You can't go wrong with this establishment. A great place to order food for delivery and to take home.

If you are in Newark - maybe for Jury Duty - this is the place to go for lunch. Great sandwiches in a traditional deli that hasn't changed in recent memory as well as lots of comfort foods including a decent chicken soup with matzo balls. This place is a true gem and should be given the protection of national landmark status.

A great deli in the heart of Newark with great food, large portions, and reasonable pricing. A great place to stop off before a game at the arena which is just a few blocks away. The place has not changes in 50 years which gives it a unique character. I suggest the pastrami sandwich or the meatloaf, both will fill you up and prepare you for the game on a winters night. Get there early as it fills up fast.
